With the exception of The Inland Sea at Warooka, this pub is the best shot you will have on the entire peninsula at a quality meal made from the freshest locally sourced products. This place is a true sleeper, the exterior of the hotel admits nothing regarding the quality of the food prepared within. The menu includes excellent vegetarian and gluten free offerings, not just some sad token dish. The salad bar was the real surprise, no seafood extender/pasta/mayonnaise horrors to be seen. The salads offered rival anything prepared by the better whole food 'boutique' places back in Adelaide. The kids menu was conventional but of a pleasing standard, the two beef cheeseburger sliders served were moist and not over cooked, the buns were quality locally baked product. The real star of this show was the seafood platter for two that my partner an I ordered. Two pieces of the freshest locally caught crumbed garfish that was sweet and delicate in texture. Two pieces of flathead that were cooked in the lightest batter I have ever encountered. No terrifying pre-crumbed calamari on this platter, instead a generous serve of really fresh, beautifully cooked rings in both a panko crumb and a very respectable version of the Vietnamese classic dish (salt and pepper). But the prawns! A range of succulent prawns served inventively, the panko crumbed version was tasty but the prawn wrapped in a potato string blew my mind (think awesome and then shift your reference point for awesome). The prawns wrapped in spring roll style cones were also a nice twist. The oysters kilpatrick were (according to my partner) pretty good. Overall, service was good, one of the proprietors came over to our booth for a chat about the meal and was pleasant and obviously took pride in being the operator of the best pub meal on the peninsula. Go there, feed!
