While the interior of the Malaya Inn may be plain, the food is amazing here!

* The Singaporean fried Hokkein Mee was the best, had a very strong shrimp taste as it was simmered in seafood broth. The owner was from Singapore & she said most of the Hokkein Mee in Melbourne are the Malaysian style, so the soy sauces makes the noodle looked brown instead.

* Kway Chap is a Teochew noodle soup consisting of flat, broad rice sheets in a soup made with dark soy sauce, served with an assortment of pork cuts including offal, pork belly, intestines, and pig's ears, braised duck meat, various kinds of beancurd, preserved salted vegetables, and braised hard-boiled eggs.

The noodle reminded me of the Silver needle noodles in Taiwan but thicker. The assortments were placed on the side instead of within the soup. We thoroughly enjoyed this dish too!

* Their char kway teow is essentially fried hor fun but the char kway teow uses Chinese sausages. I reckon it was more delicious than other popular joints nearby. Probably because it's less oily.

* This place is also one of the few places that does chwee kueh (steamed rice cake served with preserved radish) and bak chor mee (minced meat noodles).

Though I didn't like either as I find chwee kueh a bit tasteless & and didn't like the use of vinegar in bak chor mee.

* The fried oyster omelette, fried carrot cakes, Loh bak, wah tan hor fun (they called it Yee mee combination on the menu) meegoreng were good, but not enough for me to order it again. Though my daughter did enjoyed the fried carrot cakes.

* We also had the yong tau foo laksa, it was nice but still too spicy for us even though the owner added extra chicken stock for us. The soup was very creamy, I will imagine someone who loves spicy food loving it. According to the reviews, it's very similar to what you get in Singapore.

* Lastly, we had the rojak (Malay salad) which is commonly found in Indonesia. It is a salad composed of a mixture of sliced fruit and vegetables served with a spicy palm sugar dressing. I think the sauce was interesting, it think it's made from ground chilli, palm sugar and peanuts.

Both my daughter & I didn't mind it, but my husband doesn't like it.

All the portions were very big & well priced. Might try the fish porridge & fish head curry next time.

Super good food! Love the kway chap (and the chili) as well as the char koay kak that I tried. Yummy yummy. My partner loves the Singapore hokkien noodles. Would recommend anyone to go and try them if you miss dishes from home!

A Singapore Restaurant that serves authentic Singapore Street Food and dishes. Old-fashioned Chinese restaurant ambiance with a nostalgic feeling. Tried the popular Singapore Hokkein Noodles, Yong Tau Foo Laksa and Rojak. Wow! The Hokkein Noodles was so delicious that it tastes even better than some in Singapore! Rojak was good. Laksa was a bit spicy for me but it tastes great too. Family-run business. Very polite owners. Restaurant is clean and spacious but definitely looks like it needed some freshen up. But honestly it doesn’t affect me. At times like this, good food with reasonable prices are my priorities. Good service would be a plus. Will definitely be back frequently for my Hokkein Noodles fix and at the same time support them so that the restaurant could stay as long as possible.

Authentic rojak and fried carrot cakes, taste close to what I usually have in my hometown. Kuay chap is good too as well as the assam fish.

Best Singaporean Hokkien Mee that I've had in Melbourne! Definitely come here for it if you miss home! Prices are decent too, friendly staff all round.

Extraordinary food amidst modest decor. Highly recommended. The regular carrot cake was on par with, if not even better than, what you can get in Singapore. The Singapore Hokkien Mee was also very good.

I had been wanting to try Malaya Inn for some time and I was not disappointed.

The Malay Rojak Buah was fantastic! It was a large serving drenched generously with piquant sauce and peanuts. The Yew Char Kueh was super crunchy and the sauce had a good hint of spiciness (not chilli hot), just that bit of spiciness that gave the Malay Rojak a lift..

My friends ordered a Beef Fried Hor Fun.
When the Beef Fried Hor Fun came, we thought it was somebody else's order as it looked like a plate of Beef Char Kway Teow with 10 large pieces of beef! 😄

But it was super delicious. The Owner Venny confirmed that yes, the dish Beef Fried Hor Fun is actually Beef Char Kway Teow as some customers don't like to eat lap cheong (Chinese sausage).

We also tried the Singapore Hokkien Mee
which lived up to expectations. The serving was large and the stock flavourful and satisfying. I packed back another serve of Singapore Hokkien Mee to take home.

I forgot to claim a complimentary Pulut Hitam with my takeaway.

I was longing to order a Kway Chap but they were just cooking the second batch, so it was not yet ready.

Nonetheless, that gives me a reason to come back to try their Kway Chap, Bak Kut Teh, Oyster Omelette, Chwee Kueh, Bak Chor Mee and Laksa Yong Tau Fu.

Venny's husband was away so we were not able to eat Oyster Omelette or Orh Luak as Venny's husband is the Chef that cooks the Orh Luak.

The decor is a bit basic but it's more than made up by the large, generous servings and the quality of food.

I prefer Malaya Inn not to spend gobs of money on renovation but instead give us tasty and generous portion meals.

All in all, very happy with our meal.

One of our favourite weekly haunt to have their cheap and delicious Hawker specials. A great variety of choices on their menu if you are after Malaysian/Singaporean cuisine.

We ordered their Hainanese Chicken Noodle Soup and Sliced Fish Mee Hoon Noodle Soup. They were both lovely. The soups were tasty and not too salty.

Malaya Inn, Doncaster, great Singapore food like Chai Tow Kway, Loh Bak and Or Chien authentic delicacies to enjoy, Albert, Venny and auntie will provide you with great local Singapore food and service.

One of the most authentic Singapore Chilli Crab dish in Melbourne, with spicy delicious sauce to remind you of Singapore back home and crunchy Oyster Omelette with very authentic chilli sauce to match. Highly recommend.

Awesome food. All food I tried was authentic. Not fancy kind but successfully replicates the taste we have at home.
Mei Cai kou Rou was surprisingly good. Yam ring was good. Kway chap wasnt too bad either. The black bean sauce beef was very nice too. And it came with a complimentary dessert which was ideal with very little bit of sugar.

Really proper and authentic Malaysian/Singaporean food.

It is also really good value for money - the portion size is really good considering the reasonable price you pay.

For more specialised dishes such as crabs and other more unique items we were advised to call a few days in advance just to ensure availability which is fair enough.

In doing so we were able to ensure that we could enjoy a really good feed!

The flavour profile of the dark/black carrot cake, sambal chilli and the hokkien mee was spot on - if you’re looking for Singaporean hawker food hit, this is the place!

Lovely local eatery, has reduced shop size, but not the quality of its fine Malaysian dishes, really great value with weekly specials menu too

Worth to try. They are in the same shopping centre as Ampang. They serve some different types of food. The service was excellent, clean and not to crowded. Reasonable price and delicious too.

If you are looking for authentic Malaysian/Singaporean food, this is definitely the restaurant to go to.
The restaurant is very spacious, great for couples, small families or if you have a big group of people.

They are open for lunch and dinner. Our favorites are Oyster Omelet, Malay Rojak and stirfry Salted fish with beanshoots. They make the best Rojak in Melbourne.
The loh-bak tastes great, fish dishes have very authentic flavour. Try out their assam fish!
Kangkung Belacan has the perfect fragrant and taste combination.

The owners of the restaurant are very friendly. Food is always served hot, very quick service, too. We’ve recommended family and friends to eat here and everyone loves it.

Prices are compatible with other Asian Restaurants but food quality better than most.
We’re always coming back to this restaurant eventhough we moved out of the area.
