This is ice cream you simply have to write home about - smooth, creamy, refreshing. This summer - you’d be doing Lygon St an injustice if you didn’t head there! 🍨

The best gelato place! My favourite flavours were ferrero and pistachio; they were so rich and creamy and flavour-packed. The pistachio had a nice nutty flavour and there were chunks of Ferrero chocolate in the Ferrero gelato. They were open until late and you could dine in also unlike a lot of gelato places that were takeaways only.

This place is an institution for gelato if you're in the vicinity of Lygon Street. Love the range of flavours available here. The gelato is smooth and creamy, and absolutely delicious. Tried the Milo, and took away my go-to flavours of pandan and yam, and wasn't disappointed at all. The flavours are on point!

Amazing selection of flavors such as ferrero rocher, baileys, lychee, other fruits flavors, even durian!

The ice cream tasted delicious with great consistency as well. This place has been my favorite since the first time I visited them, I will always be back for more 💕

On 29 November we visited IL Dolce Freddo located in 116 Lygon St ✨

This has been our go-to place whenever we’re in Lygon St for lunch or dinner and we’ve tried many of their flavors! But this time we’re so happy to be invited to get some delicious goodies 😋

We got :
🍨 Durian Custard
This absolutely reminded me of home and how much I’ve missed this flavor! Definitely coming back to buy a tub 😋

🍦 Ferrero Rocher & Cookies and Cream
Two scoop in a cone is a classic! Both flavors were amazing by themselves and together. Very smooth and creamy.

🍧 Tub of 4 Flavors
We also got a tub home with Choc Banana, Thai Milk Tea, Chocolate Mint and Baileys. The portion was great for the price, the tub kept the ice cream cold even after we left it out for an hour or so while having dinner! So don’t worry if you happen to pass by and can’t fit anything else, you can always take them to go hehe 😋

Overall, there’s nothing stopping us from returning and we’ll continue to do so! You definitely should give this place a try if you’ve never been here, you won’t be disappointed 😍

They have good gelati with asian inspired fruits/flavours, e.g. Thai milk tea, black sesame. Their durian flavour is a super popular flavour, it always gets sold out early.

One of the best gelato place that provide lots of Asian flavors, like durian, lychees, coconut, pandan. Very soft gelato, taste good. This place is quite small. Can wait in the queue for ordering. Not much tables inside the place. Some tables outside. Parking available on street.

Very nice selection of delicious gelato. My favourite includes the Durian, Pandan Coconut, Yam & Coconut, and Bailey's Irish Cream.

So lovely to meet the new owner (circa 2016) and be able to continue coming to the BEST ice cream shop in Melbourne. Everytime we visit from the states we HAVE to come by. Husband has been coming here since 2003. Great flavor range! Definitely try the Ferrer Rocher, you will NOT FIND this flavor this good anywhere else.

I checked @ildolcefreddo last weekend and I was thoroughly impressed by the range of flavors they have ! 🤩

Of course, it wasn’t my first time trying it, I’ve always have been a fan of their ice-cream flavors and ordered them during the pandemic when they did suburbs delivery

These gelatos are very soft, rich and creamy which is also a decent pricing, with all the inflations going around I’ve noticed this is still the same affordable price as before 👏

My ultimate favourite is their pistachio had a nice nutty taste and pandan coconut or yam coconut is my go to if it’s Asian flavour which I had them to go😍

I had the pleasure watching the mango gelato being made fresh, they sell out so fast!

Very yummy and there was some interesting flavours. Would recommend atleast having a look.

We tried their half litre with black sesame and coffee, purple yam and coconut and Thai milk tea. Each flavour is unique and tastes great. Enough sweetness but not too overwhelming

Really cool place lots of options there is friendly staff such a cozy area to eat ice cream on banana and Nutella flavour ice cream yes please this restaurant should get more attention

After mad rush from willliamstown to lygon street, we arrived ten minutes before Il dolce freddo's closing. There was only one thing on my mind; durian ice cream. It's the bomb. Period.
Mango, lychee, passionfruit was good. Hazelnut and matcha was good. Damn it! Just try all the flavors!

An artisanal gelato with various classic flavour such as chocolate, pistachio, baileys, and tropical fruits flavour such ad durian, mango, and passionfruit. Good taste, good texture, and good price.

Apparently the OG gelato shop in Lygon St, Il Dolce offers a wide range of delicious gelato at reasonable prices (especially compared to a couple of the places at Southbank). Perfect place to stop off for dessert after dinner at one of the nearby restaurants. Cones and cups available. Recommended.

Talk about amazing service!! We walked from Brunswick St after dinner to get some Gelato.
I wanted to get Durian Gelato fm Il Dolce Freddo and Google states that they close at 10 and we should reach at 9.45 pm...
Given that information, we bypass all the other Gelato shops and made our way there..
Horrors!! The doors were closed!
Lights were on and decided to try to door but it was shut! Disappointed as it was our last night in Melbourne!
Next thing u know the owner opened the door and mentioned that they had closed early but if we know what flavour we wanted, he could get it for us....
Got my Durian and Hubby got Matcha as they were had ran out on Black Sesame.
Twice lucky in one night (if u read my other post about Ofuroya Onsen)....

An all time favourite for rich flavours in both “traditional” and Asian flavours. The Durian flavour is definitely a must try for durian lovers. And the Pandan Coconut flavour is the best in Melbourne, there I say, internationally.

The bestest icecream place in Melbourne AND Sydney.
Must try all flavour 😆

Can’t go wrong with Il Dolce Freddo. One of the best ice cream places on Lygon Street.
