Maria Island Campground

Peaceful camp ground with adorable wildlife. Nearby are toilets, and the ferry dock just 15 minutes away.

Nice, relaxed campground with a nice kitchen and fireplace. A nice base for hike around the island, yet very close to the ferry and former prison site. You'll find a couple of wombats every now and then.
Whilst cooking at night sometimes the possums may keep you company.

Basic campground but it has everything we need including drinking water & shower!
We even saw a tasmanian devil at the campground.

For this price very good. They had some works going on but there was still enough space for everyone.

One if the best getaways to visit in Tasmania for a mix of beaches, wildlife, and hikes. Highly recommend! The campground does suffer a little from its own popularity, and its probably time to consider defined camp spots. Not everyone is great at town planning, and a busy weekend means people will camp on top of each other. Despite a bunch of bigger options to camp, we had 3 families set up camp 2m from our site. Thats fine if they're used to communal camping, but if they need more personal space - eg, loud conversation all night, domestic disputes, heavy snorers, young kids, privatizing communal tables, etc - maybe its time for designated camp spaces to help people find the right space for them.

Good campground with a fire place, toilets and lockers to keep your food away from your tent. It's a 15min walk from the ferry drop off in Darlington. There fences but they only keep out the wallabies and wombats.
