Teen missions is an experience of a life time. it has completely transformed my faith, and ignited a fire inside of me to serve as a missionary to glorify Gods kingdom, wherever that may, be in my communities or overseas. The new staff that have taken on Teen Missions Australia are doing an amazing job brining the place back to life, and steering away from potential past hurts. i recommend Teen missions for all teens, not only do you get to go experience a new culture but you create life long friends and serve God's Kingdom in unreached places.

I was on the Teen Missions team from USA in 1990 or 1991. Our team laid the tongue and groove in the A-frames for a place to sleep. We re-poured the concrete and carpentry in the A-frames too.

I remember the Amzac(?) Biscuits for breakfast, the birds singing in the morning to wake us up, the beautiful winter weather, monstrous worms, large sliders, and the wildlife; kangaroos and snakes.

Out trip to the opal mine, sheepskin store, ginger/macadamia nut plantation, and Aboriginal village with large, carved, blue emu eggs, and a hamburger with sliced beets and shredded carrots on it! Oh, and delicious fish n chips wrapped in newspaper!!

Great memories!!!

A uniquely valuable place for nurturing spiritual and personal growth! I've benefited so much from their summer mission trips as well as their Boots on the Ground gap year program.

This place has really been given new life since QCCC took it on. A great place to retreat and unwind. The QCCC camp overseers are so wonderful and go out of their way to give you the best experience. Really impressed.

Played a huge role in my faith journey. I've been on multiple trips and have only the highest of recommendation.

Fantastic experience, I still think back to it a decade later. This place will challenge you, and make you grow.

I went on a TMIA trip to beautiful Cambodia. I will say that there were some amazing things about the trip, but many years later, I absolutely regret going.

Voluntourism in general is deeply flawed, and I urge anyone to look into those issues before undertaking a short-term mission. For example, we spent the trip building a fence which could have been done by local workers. I also feel for the children we "served" who may have met and bonded with a revolving door of short-term missionaries who never stay. We went home with photos of ourselves with the cute orphans like they were props.

The organisation itself is fundamentalist, homophobic, and steeped in purity culture. There was pressure to memorise MANY scripture verses word for word (KJV of course), and teens were encouraged to commit themselves to future full-time ministry. Letters home were monitored. The least tidy team (during boot camp) had to wear signs stating "I live like a pig". Infractions were punished with extra manual labour around the bootcamp site (yes, extra labour by the exhausted children who were paying to be there). There was also significant, inappropriate trauma dumping from our female adult leader to the teenaged girls.

None of these things rang alarm bells for me at the time. I was so naive. I know better now, and I am sorry. I hope that my honest experience might help a potential team member (and their parents!) to make a more informed decision.

Not all that glitters is gold in this place, some of us are left with emotional and mental abuse. Teen missions is good for alot of things, but also good at keeping silent on the problems that goes in that place. I hope 60 minutes covers this place and the Teens that were left with horrible experiences.
