The Old Hume Cafe - Gunning

Stopped here for a morning coffee while travelling along the highway. Good service and nice coffee, they will also refill KeepCups. Indoor seating, with a nice outdoor garden seating area at the rear. The Cafe is also conveniently located next to an EV charging station.

Saturday, we drive 🚗 to Gunning for lunch 😋, the first time a long time.

I came there in the 1960s and 1970s, when the highway went through the town, and I had a competition with cars 🚗 and trucks 🚚 for a car park, then tried to cross the street with the heavy traffic 😑 at lunchtime, to the cafe.

The place is truly amazing, friendly, and helpful and is the best cafe I have been, and eating there 😀.

Sit down and ordered our food 😋 we paid at the counter, and the service was fast, and a table service too, the friendly staff are so helpful, the chef 👨‍🍳 brings our meals, he really enjoys cooking for his customers 😀 😄.

You can eat your meals inside or in front of the main road, with children or your shelf 😉 go 🚶‍♂ back to the Beer 🍺 Garden.

Will be not the last time, here we will be back again for our breakfast 😀 our lunch 😋.

We had Lamb cutlets, crumbed, served with chips 🍟, mint jelly 😋, and your choice of steamed seasonal vegetables or salad 🥗.

Hamburger 🍔, homemade 😋 beef patties, onion 🌰, Beetroot, tomato 🍅 😋, lettuce 😋.

Service is fast and friendly here. We ordered and payed inside at the counter, our food and coffee was brought outside to our table shortly after. The flat white coffees were hot and smooth tasting, the chips were fresh and of a generous portion size, the lamb burger was delicious. Recommended.

Very busy on the public holiday, and the staff worked hard to make sure everyone was looked after.

Wait times were very reasonable, especially as they were the only cafe open today.

Always have amazing coffee when we stop in and as a barista I can be a little picky about my coffee.

Great country meals at very reasonable prices.

What a fabulous little gem, The Old Hume Cafe in Gunning is.
The best hamburger I have had for a long time, fresh ingredients, very tasty.
We needed a break from driving, excellent place to stop not far from the expressway, a piping hot coffee, hit the spot.
The service was fast and served with a smile.
We will be back.

Great Bacon and Egg roll. Had everything you could want Including jams and honey. Dairy free and gluten free selection. Pies and sausages are. Even a Kransky "bite" which of course Ai had to get the Kransky lover. He said it was really nice.
Friendly too. Enough to make you think it may be a good place to move to.

The greatest coffee Ive ever tasted. The staff were friendly and efficient. The kitchen was quick and the Burger was soooo good! If you're ever in Gunning, stop by, I promise you won't regret it

I have to be honest this cafe is owned by friends of ours but that said I wouldn’t review them if it was bad.
I stop here every time I’m able too. The food is fresh and tasty the coffee is bloody good too.
Make it Gunning for a rest break instead of the boring dirty service centres

My brother and I have been to The Old Hume Cafe a couple of times now. The chicken burgers are excellent and the hot chips are exceptional! I'm looking forward to going back soon to try other options, like the lamb burger. Super friendly and helpful staff. Definitely try it out if you're in Gunning!

Super impressed by this cafe's lunchpack for kids. Perfect if you are driving past around lunchtime. A far healthier alternative to the stuff on the highway. Not pictured was a juice as well. Grown ups had iced lattes and pre made cheese and salad rolls, absolutely delicious. Will def stop here again in the future.

Always a go to, fresh coffee, now winter is coming the fresh soups is amazing to warm up with.
Staff work well together and are really helpful.

Best food in Gunning, love a schnitzel burger and chips. I'm keen to try the local (?) sauces they sell but keep forgetting to do so. Apparently, the coffee is good too, although I'm yet to try it.

Update: As of April 2024, store will now be closed Tuesdays and temporarily won't be selling any deep fried food or burgers. Still selling coffee, cakes, sandwiches, pies etc. See shop facebook page for more details.

Great place to drop in for a break next time you travel through Gunning, Excellent coffee refreshments and food And great people to serve you. Highly recommended.

Good honest food, nostalgic for 60s and 70s when the highway went through town. Well worth diverting off the freeway. Forget the big takeaways at Yass and support the locals. God knows they need it after covid. The big take away will never appreciate your custom, the small business does.

Epic home made sausage rolls!!!! No sauce needed... Divine slices too. A+++

Awesome place to stop off for a quick meal or grab something quick while travelling through Gunning

Just had a take away coffee but it was lovely. Staff were so kind and friendly. Good to see people inside and outside enjoying their visit.

Stopped for lunch twice in the last 3 days. Heading north we had yummy hamburger and a lamb burger and both were just delicious and a side of hot fresh chips. Heading south we went for a double beef bacon and cheese burger as well as a pulled pork burger and of course the freshly cooked hot chips.
Staff were very friendly, service was quick and we will be back.
I do believe they are open for dinner on a Thursday, Friday and Saturday night for dinner. The dinner menu looks good and they have specials.
Great for people camping up the road in the free camp area!
