Maxims' Cakes

Something of an institution in Little Bourke Street, Maxims is an authentic Asian Bakery and I would consider more upmarket than say Bread Top. They have an excellent range of cakes, buns, tarts and so much more. There is an amazing range of large cakes and cheesecake style items in the fridge as soon as you walk in the door, so if you have a special event coming up, it would be worth giving them a try. Prices are generally reasonable and the taste superior to other places nearby.
The staff are lovely and patient because frankly, I stood there just not knowing which delicious item to buy. I chose the egg tart and not disappointed. There is also a nice range of savoury items as well. Wheelchair friendly. Dietaries - just ask the staff. Eat in or takeaway.

Maxims Cake’s wide variety of treats and food is immaculate and is a must try for authentic Hong Kong cuisines. The egg tarts are very popular and taste especially great just out of the oven. I had had many positive experiences all the times that I have been with amazing buns, cakes and other popular treats such as wife cake and Swiss rolls. A must try for everyone with reasonably priced food. Next time you are in the CBD, or in Kingsway Glen, you have to check them out!!

These people are the nicest people ever, I accidentally put in two orders, but I just called them and they sorted it out; no problem!

The food is great too, this will probably be my usual place to go for Chinese breads since breadtop never seems to deliver anymore.

Cakes are great and service here is even better! Ordered delivery here tonight and one of the items I ordered was unavailable to staff called me to offer alternative and provided some egg tarts also. So kind!!

The best taro puffs I've tried in Melbourne so far! These little puffs of joy do sell out so head in early in the day.

$2.90 per piece but they're absolutely delicious. I'm also a fan of the bbq pork puffs far left. Their almond cookies are our household favourite too!

Authentic Asian bakery offering beautiful cakes, pastries and sweets. I am a huge fan of their Swiss rolls which they offer in several flavours, I love them all and my favourite is the pandan.

Maxims is one of the only classic Hong Kong bakeries left in Melbourne. I can always rely on them to provide me with the most delicious and nostalgic cakes. All true lovers of Hong Kong bakeries can appreciate Maxims!

I was excited to try when I saw they had Mexican Buns otherwise called "Conchas" but was disappointed to find it wasn't made with the right recipe at all, not even the same ingredients the Mexican buns have congeled cream on top. I hope they actually give the authentic real thing a try, I think people in Melbourne would love it. Specially Latinos here. If you make it I'll help you promote it with the Melbourne Latino community how about that?

Great authentic Hong Kong classics like pineapple bun, cocktail bun and egg tarts as well as a wide variety of cakes and other buns.

I am familiar with Maxim in Hong Kong and it seems that Maxims' Cakes is the same brand.

One of the cakes that stood out to me was their durian cake. The flavor was spot on and the texture was perfect. The cake was moist and not too sweet, which is how I like it. The durian filling was rich and had a strong, authentic taste. Overall, the durian cake was delicious and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who loves durian.

In addition to the durian cake, I also tried a few other flavors such as chocolate and matcha. They were also very tasty and well made. The cakes were beautifully decorated and had a great presentation.

Overall, I was very impressed with Maxims' Cakes and would recommend them to anyone looking for high-quality cakes. Their durian cake is definitely a must-try!

My favourite place in the city. No, I am not a bot, I just REALLY love Maxims’ Cakes. 10/10, 5 stars, 100%, A+. Wife cake could be better though…but everything else is incredible don’t even get me started on the sausage and corn bread thing HNGGGGH and GOOD PRICE!! Oh my days.

If you come in around opening when the egg tarts are fresh - you'll find nothing like it in Melbourne! Treat you/your family/your colleagues to a dozen and it won't disappoint.

The selection of buns is also very tasty and reasonably priced.
