Could not be more pleased with Ian Barker design and landscaping teams. We had a challenging project for which the design team came up with plans which were beautiful and practical. They assisted all the way with council permit applications, making adjustments where required to obtain approval. The landscaping team were also fabulous, and have successfully implemented the design vision. We had a minor issue at the end of the project which Ian and Steve, together with our pool builder, addressed immediately. Highly recommend.

Landscaping design. Initial architectural drawings were good but their priority for profit over professionalism led us parting ways.

I'd like to sound a cautionary note about this business. Some years ago we hired Ian Barker to develop a plan for our back yard and swimming pool. The plan itself was really good, so we paid for it and commenced construction. Problems arose - it turned out that there was a mistake in the plan, which had one corner of the swimming pool incorrectly placed over an easement. The landscapers and pool construction guys were starting to get confused, because the plan was incorrect and now they weren't sure exactly what went where.

I rang Ian Barker Gardens to point out the error, and ask them to draw a new set of plans that we could work from. I was not confrontational at all, but there was some initial reluctance, so I pointed out that it was actually their mistake, and that the plan they had supplied us could actually not legally be built. They went away to think about that, and came back to tell us that they would do it - if we paid them some more money. I have to say, I was a bit gobsmacked by that. Nothing we could say would convince them to fix their own mistake without further payment.

So in the end we muddled through by over communicating with the landscapers and pool builders, who modified the plan on the fly, carried us through, and got it built legally. No thanks to Ian Barker and co.

I have no problem with the quality of the work they did, but in my opinion their professionalism in our situation left a lot to be desired.

It is my belief that as a business owner you should treat customers with the utmost respect, be willing to help them as much as possible, and go beyond their expectations. This man did none of that. I too had a negative response from him. He told me that my property was not a good fit for his designs after I told him my budget was $5,000-10,000, and open to spend more if needed. I only have a small backyard, in a new housing estate, and thought it would be nice to have his gardening touch to show my neighbours who are also looking to spend money on landscaping. He made me feel like I was not rich enough to afford his services, and snubbed me because he thought my backyard was not good enough for him to decorate. He also assumed that I could not afford his $4,500.00 consultation fee. He left me with a very unpleasant feeling, like I was not good enough. If there is one thing I know for certain in life, it's that under no circumstances do you ever make someone feel like they are beneath you. Its not good for the soul and definitely not good for business. If this man wants to pick and choose his customers then he should not be flaunting his best work for all the world to see.

If your garden is not upper class, they won’t even take the work! They sent someone to have a look of my garden and were supposed to give me a quote form regular garden maintenance. I had to wait 5 days to only hear back from them that they don’t want to take, and no explanation! I understand each business has its right to choose their customer, but hey can you let me know in advance so I wouldn’t waste my time waiting for your response!
