Ryans Den GOW Campground

The most remote of all the campsites along the Great Ocean Walk. The track from Johanna up to Ryan's Den was the most unmaintained when I walked in between Christmas and New Year 2023. In parts, it's only a narrow path in between long grass so make lots of noise as you walk through and be wary of snakes. Lots of steep inclines along the first 5km and the last 5km of this section. The campground itself is lovely but each campsite is quite separate from the others so not so much of a communal vibe. Grassy knoll lookout would be great for sunset, there was a lot of cloud cover the night I stayed. Has the standard shelter and water tank. Only 1 loo here so there was sometimes a short wait.

Amazing campsites high up on a point with amazing Eastern views back to Cape Otway. Western views across to moonlight Head and towards Port Campbell. 2 water tanks and one composting toilet. Very hard clay campsites but in a beautiful setting.

Sensational little remote campsite with just the right amount of amenities, eg one drop dunny, a couple of rainwater tanks and half a dozen tent sites, none within 15-20m of the other. Got a stunning lookout on a point looking west - great spot to rest and watch the sunset after a few hill climbs in the last 5km or so coming into Ryan’s. Also a good spot to watch the sunrise at another clearing on the other side of the point.

GOW is a wonderful walk. Camping areas good.

Small campsites with pretty uneven ground. Nice remote area with two water tanks.

I spent the night of 6 Dec at Ryan's Den campground and found it as good as all other GOW campgrounds. It is in close bushland with seaviews through the trees. Not close to the beach however and in case of a bushfire no way out.

No beach access, but a nice camp site.
