Rasa Malaysia Cafe
Caulfield, Victoria
Laksa, We love laksa, Curry Laksa, Sarawak Laksa, Assam Laksa, Nyona Laksa and beyond! One kind of Laksa we haven’t seen on a menu before in Melbourne is Siam Laksa, Potentially Assam Laksa’s sometimes overlooked cousin. It was a BRUTALLY cold night in Melbourne and when your heater is weak you want your dinner game to be strong - That’s why I jumped in the Soupmobile (shout outs 2008 Toyota Corolla) and headed to Rasa Malaysia on the bustling Dandenong road.
When you have a menu dedicated to laksas and have to choose between Curry Laksa, Assam and Siam laksa’s it’s never going to be easy however at the recommendation of the waiter I went for a seafood Siam - And how lucky I was to follow her lead. What followed was an aromatic, deep fishy but spicy broth. So many flavours and so many herbs. This restaurant clearly cares about the end result, there were no halves here. Two noodle types check, plentiful laksa herbs check, LOADS of seafood in the bowl CHECK (albeit, some slightly chewy), sediment in a finished bowl as far as the eye can see CHECK. I am now an instant fan of Siam laksa. Give it to me now, give it to me always.
Melburnians - I know a lot of you have your go to laksa spots but I implore you to head east and try Rasa Malaysia Cafe for their Penang laksa’s (and maybe a couple of yummy snackies while you’re at it!)

Absolutely delicious food and delightful service. We had the laksa Siam, oyster omelette and lemongrass tumeric with lamb. All the dishes were mouthwatering especially the laksa.
Only complaints would be that some background music in the restaurant would be nice and some of the dishes were on the slightly expensive side. In saying that though we've paid far more for far less, so realistically 100% worth it.
Can't wait to come back and try more dishes. 😊

I had the most delicious noodles with fresh vegetables. Great options for vegan/vegetarians. Tip: Hot is really spicy so make sure to order according to your spice levels!

Delicious Malaysian food with a few dishes not commonly seen on menus. We started with the lohbak which was interesting as it was with chicken and not pork. The satay-esque sauce served with it was very tasty. We then had the excellent coconut laksa with a rich intense broth which was incredibly moreish. Then the Prawn Hokkien Mee which had a lovely char flavour. Delightful service. No need to wonder why they have been there for 30 years despite this being our first - but not last - visit

I'm a frequent customer at this restaurant. Some of my favorites are their oyster omelette, assam fish, laksa Siam and many more. Very delicious and authentic Malaysian food.

A humble but really tasty Malaysian restaurant that delivers on taste despite initial impressions. Classic example of a 'diamond in the rough' restaurant.
I came here for dinner because I had a craving for curry laksa. For some reason, all the Malaysian restaurants I used to go to are all closed so I decided to try this place. When I got there (at 6:15 pm) the place was totally empty. The decor was also very simple and the menu looked pretty basic with minimal pictures. The staff however were very polite, friendly and helpful.
The food arrived fairly quickly and was very tasty. I ended up with several of their dishes, all of which were good, especially their Siam laksa. Most dishes allow you to specify your level of spiciness. I like spicy food but opted to go for medium in all the dishes which had a pleasant level of great without overwhelming the flavours.
The prices were also pretty reasonable and they did a fair trade in takeaway orders while we ate, despite nobody else coming to eat in while we were there.
All in all, I'd definitely come back here again and I'm surprised this place isn't more popular.

I was pleasantly surprised at how unassuming the place looked from the external appearance. Once inside the restaurant, the one wait staff was friendly and efficient. The food was in fact quite deliciously good. We will come back again.

Got the Char kway teow, mee goreng, spicy fish and tofu mixed vegetables. It was amazing! So much flavour and so spicy. It is my favourite Malaysian restaurant in Melbourne by far, and has been for years now.
My family is from Malaysia too and they all love it as much as me too!

Everything I’ve ordered so far has been really delicious! Very authentic flavour and a real bright light during this lockdown. Looking forward to plenty more Laksa and Chicken rice in the future!

If you want fresh authentic Malaysian cuisine, this is your restaurant. The dishes are cooked from scratch and not the heavy, gluggy generic stuff that passes as Malaysian these days. In particular, I highly recommend the Hainanese chicken rice (Tuesdays only) .This family run business has been around a long time and have survived by maintaining the high quality of their
food

Swee is the loveliest. The wait can be a little long depending on how busy it gets as it's a family run business. The food is worth the wait. My favourite is the steamed barramundi with rice and sambal kangkung. Then the apam which is the Malaysian pancake with the ice cream for dessert. We enjoyed the Kueh Dadar as a dessert (palm sugar and dessicated coconut in a green skin). If you're looking for individual meals, my aunt stands by the spicy prawn har mee. I love the hor fun. Ask for a recommendation if you can't decide. :)

Lovely food and friendly service. We've enjoyed their curry a few times and it is very good. Recommend the beef with mandarin sauce, scrumptious.
