Scotty's Hostel

Stayed here in 1991 I know it's a bit late to review. Place was awesome, fun drinking games which a girl and I won by doing a vertical 69 in the pool. Also the owners son took us on a fun daytrip in the bush where we white water rated with our body down some rapids.

We found this little backpackers to be the perfect place to regroup, recharge the batteries and relax for two nights on our trip up North. Everything is clean and neat, including the camp kitchen. Manager was very friendly and gave us a great tip as to where to get a great coffee. Also, very helpful in organising our itinerary. Staff very friendly, and just a great little spot by the pool to just relax and while away the day.

Great place for long stay and short. Sign in process can be extensive, but fair enough in these times.

Party with the backpackers 😍

Quiet during the day so great fot lounging. Crowd comes in late afternoon and gets busier in the evening. Peaceful again at night.
Pleasant pool and very short stroll to beach. Market is 15 minute walk or take the shuttle. Not a party hostel but beer and wine are not unknown.

Really nice position close to beach, shops not far, good staff, clean usable kitchen & Mission Beach is a beautiful place. 👍

Don't work for accommodation here!

Decent wee hostel with good facilities. However, don't work here.

My girlfriend and I stayed here for a week recently. The owner, a guy named Richard, had told us that in exchange for 2hours work 5 days a week, we could have free accommodation. Great! He also said that 'theres loads to do in Mission Beach, and plenty of work available!'

Richard, unfortunately, seems to ration the truth. There's not lots to so in Mission Beach, in fact there's quite little to do beyond the skydive. Subsequently, there's not much work either.

Richard wasn't exactly forthcoming about working for accommodation either. Some days work are 2-3 hours. Some days 4+. And on the extra special days, when you drive the bus, you can expect a working day which lasts from 9am - 7pm. Oh, and it's 6 work days, not 5.

As I said, the hostel is decent, but it is a working hostel, which hosts 20 or so farm workers. The hostel is for them.

They might have you believe that you too can work on the farm, if you're prepared to wait an undetermined amount of time.

In short, the place isn't bad a for a few nights. If you're not working for pay, don't hang about.

Was a nice chilled hostel, Andrew the rude receptionist ruined it. Would recommend people not to go there because of him. Other staff were nice

Wasted my time driving here to be told the hostel is closed. Funny how it’s closed when it’s showing availability on Hostelworld and Booking. Guy was rude and offered little explanation when I asked why is it available to book online tonight he just repeated we’re closed. Avoid at all costs.

They had two German guys come down from Cairns because Scottys said they had work. When they turned up they told them there is no work for them. Didn’t even get in contact to update.
