Ayton General Store

When you're crawling through a desert even the smallest Oasis is paradise. The Ayton store is not too dissimilar to the average Seven Eleven store. A little bit of everything to get you by although a tad more expensive due to transport costs. I didn't go into the shop on this particular day (my work colleague did) however when I have gone in and purchased food the staff have always been helpful and friendly. I think it is a family owned business. They don't sell fuel so you will need to fuel up in Cairns, Wujal Wujal, or Cooktown. Fuel in Cairns will be your cheapest bet. The drive from Ayton to Cooktown is through beautiful rainforest and you might want to stop off at the Lions Den for lunch.

A great little convenience store in my own area. This the ideal outlet where l get what l need without travelling all the way to Cooktown. You can buy fresh vegetables, groceries, pet food, clothing, hardware and even car accessories you name it! Over the road, you can pull in and there toilets and even a playground for the kids. If you have a dog, don't worry! There's plenty of room for all to have a stretch. While your in Ayton, turn down Weary Bay Road and take a look at the beautiful pristine coastline viewing Cedar Bay and further down - the Bloomfield River mouth. On your way through when you are travelling up the Bloomfield Track- when you cross the bridge- turn left and keep driving for about 3 or 4 kilometres until you end up at the end of the road and then walk along the walk track until you see and hear Wujal Wujal Falls. You can't miss it and very spectacular - not worth missing! The Bloomfield area has a lot to offer. There's even a recreation reserve to stay over night with water and showers and it's free of charge. If you can't find what your looking for- ask at the Ayton Store. Have a great holiday!

Okay for a remote place only store in Cape tribulation for a few miles
