Free Spirit Pods

Just amazing! This was our first post-COVID holiday and we wanted a quiet and restful base for exploring Bruny Island and Free Spirit Pods was perfect. The room was brilliantly laid out, taking up a small space, but never feeling cramped. It was private and tranquil and we spent so much of our day wildlife watching.
The owners provided an amazing amount of food, so while it's worth bringing a few things of your own, you certainly won't be stuck if you've forgotten a meal or two. With all the chocolate, bread and cheese on the island combined with what Free Spirit provides, you could probably get away with not bringing anything.
The kitchen was really well designed and not only stocked well with food, but with appliances and utensils. The only fault I could find was that the knives really needed to be sharper. But given how attentive to every detail the owners seem to be, I wouldn't be surprised if they've been replaced by the time this review goes up.
We've recommended this place to multiple friends already and will definitely be back!

I should mention that the Google listing says "Kitchens in some rooms" - there are kitchens in both rooms. And contrary to the Google listing, they do not accept pets there.

Fantastic place to relax for a few days. The design of the accommodation is excellent. Beautiful recycled Tassie hard wood timber. Well insulated for cosy winter nights. Very private. Peaceful views over the bush scape and bay.

Our stay at Free Spirit Pods was divine. The accommodation was cozy and well supplied with anything you could need during your stay. We enjoyed the addition of the fresh local veggies and other provisions provided. There was nice little touches and careful attention to detail throughout the accommodation. The area itself is very tranquil and perfect for walking along the coast. Our hosts were happy to help us out when we needed it. Bonus, being able to go nab some fresh wild oysters and enjoy the wallabies popping by in search of a snack. Would stay here again in a heartbeat.

We stayed in the Blue Wren pod and it was spectacular. So much thought and love have gone into every detail of this accommodation, from the incredible range of local food/drink provisions to the meaningful decor and book collection. The views across the water are beautiful and we had a great time taking the kayaks out, followed by a well-earned BBQ. Garry, Louise and Gbinda are a fantastic team – thank you for a blissful stay!

Very comfortable and well equipped accommodation in an amazing location. Our stay here at North Bruney has been wonderful and free spirit pods was the perfect place to unwind for the first few days of our Honeymoon. I hope we get back to visit again one day!

We spent 4 days on Bruny Island and had a wonderful time. The Free Spirit Pods were a great place to stay. Fantastic hosts, brilliant accommodation including all the unexpected little extras Chris and Garry included. Over looking the water and watching the birds and animals made for a relaxing stay. Although it was a bit windy for our stay it did not stop us exploring the island and taking in the sites. We would highly recommend the Free Spirit Pods as a place to stay.

Superb location, tranquil environment and exceptional hosts! The pods are equipped with everything you will need for a few relaxing nights on Bruny Island! Including kayaking gear which was our personal favourite. Thanks again Garry and Chris. We will be back. 🙂

One of my favourite places I’ve ever stayed! It ticked all the boxes for me... peaceful, private, completely immersed in nature, views across the bay, communal fire pit (with marshmallows!), kayaks, trails, INCREDIBLE hosts, and the pods themselves were just gorgeous! I will always support those who embrace sustainability and eco-friendly tourism. Thank you Garry and Chris, we will absolutely be back!!!

We spent two nights in the Blue Wren pod, and at the end of an extremely peaceful and comfortable stay I want little more than to stay longer.

We were greeted at the gate by Louise, one of the wonderful hosts. She showed us our cabin in detail including all the well thought out treats, then left us to explore. After settling down, I went outside and sat around the pademelons who cluster around the pods at dusk. They were friendly but wild, happy to sit around but not irresponsibly coddled to the point where they don’t fear humans. Remarkably we were also fortunate enough to see three wild quolls foraging around the grounds after dark - an experience now almost unique to North Bruny, and playing on our doorstep for the two days we were there. Unforgettable by itself, but just part of the experience in this particular setting.

During the day we were able to lazily get up when we wished without a hint of disturbance you’d find almost anywhere else. Walks along the waterline in front of the pods led to an outcrop where we could watch sea birds diving for fish, endless little beaches, and living bush land punctuated with the occasional thump of a startled wallaby or pademelon.

Topping it all off, our hosts suggested we check out late which allowed us to avoid a hasty departure.

Incredibly highly recommended, both in quality and unbelievably good value for money. I’d give it more than 5 stars if I could.

Free Spirit Pods were incredible!
Essentials such as cleanliness and comfort were exceptional... Not to mention the spacious, modern, vibrant style of the pods, once-in-a-lifetime view, natural surroundings (walking by the beach and through the bush), eco-friendly accommodation and amazing hosts. Beautiful wildlife on the property too. Thanks for surpassing our expectations!

A brilliant place to stay at a stunning location on Bruny Island. The pods are very high quality and fully equipped with everything you need for your stay and more, thanks to the very thoughtful hosts. The fireplace and heated bathroom floors make it warm and cosy in winter too.

My wife and I had a wonderful overnight stay at Free Spirit Pods (Blue Wren Pod). The pods are beautifully presented with striking colour co-ordination and the wonderful smell of the natural timbers plus the warm glow of the pellet woodfired heater. Garry and Chris were wonderful hosts and the pods are a credit to them. We will certainly be back to stay.

We had such a lovely and relaxing time on our 2 day "mini holiday" at the "Blue Wren" free spirit pod. Chris and Garry have thought of everything in the design of these amazing pods. Beautiful scenery, oysters at our doorstep and wildlife in abundance. We will definitely be back.

This incredible gem located on North Bruny Island is truly set to be a landmark of the Apple Isle.
The two fully self sufficient pods facing Quarantine Bay have had no expense spared on either their comfort or design. It's the perfect place to do a spot of fishing, walk some beautiful nature trails, or simply relax on your deck and do nothing at all but take it all in.
The nights are kept warm and cosy and the free roaming wildlife certainly don't lack in curiosity or friendliness!
The charming and witty owner Garry and his lovely partner Chris are walking wealths of knowledge regarding the local produce and the islands highlights, and were very warm and welcoming.
We will definitely be back soon to continue making more memories of this gorgeous new addition to North Bruny Island.

We very much enjoyed our 2 nights stay at Blue Wren Pod. Garry and Chris are the perfect hosts and know how to make their guests feel welcome and thoroughly spoilt! Their pods are eco-friendly and supplied with everything you could ever think of. They are located on a lovely patch of North Bruny - tranquil with priceless outlooks of Quarantine Bay. The complimentary brekky of granola and banana bread was yummy and it was fun feeding the wallabies. If you’re coming to Bruny we would recommend Free Spirit Pods all the way. Thanks Garry and Chris for a memorable holiday.

What a beautiful, relaxing tranquil place. Both Chris and Garry went out of their way to make our long weekend on Bruny Island at Free Spirit Pods an extremely memorable one. The attention to detail was second to none and Chris was an absoulte star. Nothing was too hard and you felt you were staying with friends. So so welcoming! Would highly recommend go and see for yourselves you wont be disappointed!!! Thank you we will be back!!! xxx

This is the place if you want to get away! Beautiful and tranquil, with lovely views of Quarantine Bay. The pods are very well appointed and modern with all you need...plus a few surprise treats! Chris and Gerry were great hosts and prompt with communication. Highly recommend a visit to Free Spirit Pods.

Fantastic experience! Absolutely stunning location, great hosts. Loved the self-contained, cosy pods. These pods really are part of the environment and I would recommend staying here if you are to head over to Bruny Island. Thank you Gary & Chris!

Much impressed by the well equiped open kitchen and the tidy and comfortable bed in the well decorated living room. The house is built by the water and you will enjoy nice view from the bacony of the house.

You will have no difficulties to find that the house owner is giving a lot of heart in decorating and equipping the house for comfortable stay. Will definitely come back to stay for longer holiday in future.

Wish we can keep this place a secret forever! So beautiful and serene, full of homely and luxurious comforts (from the most thoughtful hosts), we loved the fireplace, the kayak, the best bed ever! Do yourself a favour, think no further, book this place and you will never want to leave! Thank you so much Chris and Garry - we are planning our next return! :)
