229 on Main Cafe

We loved our stop at 229 on the way to Flinders. Friendly service, a big air conditioner blowing cool air, plenty of unique memorabilia and lots of visitors and locals enjoying lunch. Food was fresh and quick. What a wonderfully quirky find!

Very friendly service, unique and interesting use of a former movie theatre....food and coffee great! Nice range of historical artefacts to investigate also.

Just had the best burger, chock full of pattie, bacon, egg, cheese, pickles and all the good stuff. Very reasonable - Broken Hill eat your heart out. Save your appetites for Peterborough. Interesting old movie theatre full of interesting memorabilia. Lovely service.

Just the best burgers, bacon and eggs, flat whites. A terrific atmosphere. Don't be put off by comments about darkness. It's an old cinema with lots of nostalgia and memories. Highly recommend.Eat ya heart out Broken Hill. You could learn a lot from this wee country town. Nick from Tin Can Bay.

Had not been to 229 for 4 years. Nothing has changed, and that is a good thing.
The burgers were huge, fresh, filling and excellent value for money. Staff as friendly as ever and the ambience of this old theatre is hard to beat. Such a relaxing lunch.

The cafe is situated in the old Capitol Theatre. We enjoyed our old school burgers, a steal at $12 (Sept 2022). The space is cavernous and filled with movie memorabilia and other historical ephemera. Well worth the stop, eat and browse.

A quirky old theatre that we found by accident. Memorabilia everywhere. Food great and milkshakes in the old metal containers ( filled to the brim)

Extraordinarily Themed Cafe! Beautiful comfortable, cosy place for a nice morning or afternoon tea & lunches. Really enjoyed the burgers with “The Lot”. Friendly staff & great atmosphere.

OMG, is this no e coooolest cafe ever. Friendly staff, eggs Benedict yum, coffee and alll the memorabilia to have a gander at. Love this place.

If you are in Peterborough do yourself a favour and go and have a meal at this Cafe. Great service, generous portions and, amazing collection of historical items in the old theatre.

Lovely place to stop for a coffee between the southern Flinders Ranges and Broken Hill on the Barrier Highway. The cafe is an old picture house and is full of curios from the last century.

Amazing stop in the main street in Peterborough in an old movie theatre. Decorated thoughtfully with loads of memorabilia and things to do. Coffee fantastic, nice and hot, with lovely custard tart! Beautiful staff and very clean
