Love the drive through/over the canyons. Colours of the canyons is best captured at sunrise. Beautiful spot to watch the sunset as well. Enjoy a hike to shothole canyon as well.

Lovely views from the road on your way to and through Cape Range. Great at sunset. Curvy windy road but asphalt much of the way before becoming gravel but still easy for normal cars.

Outstanding vistas. This tourist drive is very underappreciated; if you are in the area, you should put it on your "must visit" list and give it more consideration than it currently receives. The route winds its way up into the Cape Ranges, which affords travellers breathtaking vistas of the surrounding canyons.

Just stunning. Took a very easy drive from the main road as sealed for thr most part, the unsealed road was in great condition. There are plenty of places to pull in and take I'm rhe spectacular views

Why in Australia do we underrate our natural attractions. Charles Knife Canyon is fantastic, so easy to access if you are in the Exmouth area, with amazing scenery.
The knife edge or razor back mountains the run between the deep canyons look like fantastic walks and certainly make the mind wander, as you imagine mountain biking or hiking across the top of them.
In summer when the weather is hot, a drive is the best way to sea the canyon.
When you mixed the view of the canyon with the view of the amazing blue ocean you having nothing short of magic.
It would certainly be even more spectacular to see the canyons after rain & it would appear with a sealed road over most of the canyons, that would be quite possible, when ever the rain arrives.
Do miss the spot, it’s about 25k before Exmouth and sealed to the top.

Stunning, lots of fog to start, sunrise was amazing. All these changes in about 20mins. Go early to catch the sunrise. Good road up there.

Greatest views I’ve seen in a while!
Stunning landscape and views over the Exmouth Golf.
Put this on your list of places to visit while in Exmouth.

Amazing views at the end of the sealed roadway, we’ll worth the trip out. It’s really like a mini Grand Canyon. The gravel road was closed when we visited, so we walked to the Thomas Carter Lookout. A bit of a long walk for a view that was not as good as what we saw at the end of the sealed roadway. If the roads closed, I would give this walk a miss. Overall a great view and worth a visit when in the area.

Easy for 2WD to get through, but not really worth going to lookout unless you plan to do the 4hr hike to see the actual lookout.

If you're planning to just do a drive and take photos it's not necessary to go all the way to the end as the views doesn't get better.

The Charles Knife Canyon drive is a must-do for anyone visiting Exmouth. The road is mostly sealed and easy to drive, even in a 2WD vehicle. The scenery is simply stunning, with the red sandstone cliffs of the Cape Range National Park towering above you on one side and the glimpses of turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean on the other.

There are plenty of places to pull over and take photos, and there are also a few short walking trails that you can do if you want to get out and stretch your legs. The views from the top of the canyon are particularly impressive.

We drove the Charles Knife Canyon road in our family car with our three young children, and we all had a great time. The kids loved seeing all of the different rocks and formations, and they were also fascinated by the wildlife, including the emus and lizards that we spotted along the way.

We highly recommend the Charles Knife Canyon drive to anyone visiting Exmouth. It's a great way to experience the natural beauty of the area and to see some of the best scenery that Australia has to offer.

A must visit on the way to Exmouth or back! Lovely smooth sealed road all the way up to a place you can pull over for a spectacular view. It reminded me of Z Bend in Kalbarri.
Drive slightly further and the road is unsealed, starts off very rough across the bridge but then is just a normal nice flat gravel road. It'll take you to the start of a 1km walking trail, but there's no shelter or toilets etc here. Worth driving a bit further to keep looking out the window at more lovely views, but the best view is at the end of the sealed road.

We drove a 2WD. At the end of the sealed road we decided to park our car before the gravel upslope as we didn't want to risk the car losing traction and going off course.

We did a short walk to see the canyon lookout and headed back to the car after we asked a man, who drove to the end and came back, if it was worth walking to the end. He told us that this was the nicest view we'll get and there was no need to walk further.

Gorgeous landscape a must visit place in Exmouth. Little windy up the mountain, have to take care while taking photos near cliff.

The view from here is spectacular. Probably better at sunset (see pictures) than at dawn due to the light orientation.
However, note that to get here you need to climb hills on an unpaved road. So, be prepared!
Watch out also from the cactus in the last picture. It is very nasty and very easy to get stung!

Awesome view, especially when visiting at sunrise!!

Now there is a road close at around 13km of Charles Knife Road. But it is still worth 👍🏻.

Absolutely worth a look and to see the views loved the drive up the hills and to look outs! Love way the ranges just mould into the see and the views are incredible! Also worth it if you keep driving hit the gravel and keep going to Thomas look out!

This is a great place to visit for a look around. We drove up the road until it changed to gravel. You would need a four wheel drive to continue. I was surprised at the size of the canyons. There's a couple of spots to check out the great views down the canyons on both sides of the road. There's also views out to the coast. The only other thing is a memorial plaque to some oil exploration that went on in 1960's.
