A great little store/workshop with a sizable collection of vintage guitars, amplifiers and accessories for sale. They're also extremely skilled with servicing, repairs and set-up. If you want to get the very best out of any guitar that you have, book it in for a service with them, because they seemingly will not settle for anything less than perfection with their work.

I used to like my guitar, however now that Brendan has worked on it,I absolutely love it!It feels like a brand new guitar, seamless craftsmanship by Brendan has made my guitar come alive!

Absolutely blown away. Took an old Les Paul in for a bit of attention and it got returned to me as the nicest feeling, sounding and playing guitar I've ever picked up. Brendan is a master. They have a lot of work but still got my job done before Christmas in under a week. So happy, however I'm left with no option but to figure out which of my other guitars to take in next.

I had two Gibsons, an Aria and a Lamberti (yes, really) that desperately needed attention, and Real Guitars (Brenden) did a great job of repairing and setting them up superbly, at a price I could afford. Look no further than Real Guitars (I add that I have no financial or family or any connection whatsoever to the folks at Real Guitars.)

I first met Brendan and Ian back in 2003 when my mum knocked my guitar over while vacuuming and snapped the headstock (they made it good as new). Since then Real Guitars has been my go to guitar shop with repairs, sales and servicing. Real Guitars is an institution and I look up to Brendan, Ian and Jonathan as father figures in my life - friends who look after me and genuinely care for my instruments. They also sell the best second hand vintage guitars and amps in Melbourne - I buy all my stuff there. Don’t be put off by the state of the place - they’re busy for a reason. Stick around and explain what you want done and hear their expert advice, and when you receive your guitar back make sure you test it out in the shop - they will gladly perform any tweaks and last minute adjustments to your liking.
In closing, this place is excellent. 100% recommended and never ever had a problem with Real Guitars in almost 20 years.

Real Guitars is the best guitar store in Melbourne. Ian & Brendan are knowledgeable and hospitable. I have been a customer there for 15 years. I bought a Fender Bass Guitar off eBay and the neck was warped and unplayable, but Brendan applied his expertise and fixed it perfectly !! They always stock great quality stuff there too. These guys are true experts. It's not like some smart arse young guy having a go at setting up your guitar and not caring much about it. They care about what they do and go into great detail about what they've done/have to do. I cannot recommend them more highly ! 10/10

I needed a very rare saddle screw for my 80s Yamaha bass guitar. A few shops didn't have it but told me to try Real Guitars. Sure enough, after a bit of digging around they found the right screw. I also had some problems with my electro acoustic which they fixed on the spot. Very knowledgeable and helpful, and a reasonable price. These guys are legends.

I've been getting my guitars repaired and serviced at Real Guitars for over 20 years. Ian and Brendan are absolute masters at their craft. Love this place. Best guitar shop in Melbourne.. probably one of the best in the world.

I don't normally do reviews, but my experience at Real Guitars was fantastic and needs to be acknowledged. I'm just a noodler, but I've played for years and never really thought about the state of my guitars. Anyway, after some time off i thought i better take one in for a set up. Brendan is a wonderful bloke. He spent time with me talking me through what he planned to do with the guitar. I didn't realise how cooked the thing was - and has probably been that way since i took it out of the shop. The end result is absolutely amazing. It's a completely different instrument. Do yourself a favour and get down there. You won't regret it.

Really cool guys. Brendan is a wealth of knowledge and tailored my guitars to my playing style. Well worth the 3hr round trip drive for me. Can't speak highly enough. Only place Ill take my guitars to. Thanks

Ian helped me sort out what I wanted to do with my old Hofner and Brenden Mason was a magician restoring the guitar and the fret redress is honestly one of the best I have ever had on a guitar here or in the USA. I highly recommend you drop whatever you are doing go check these guitar legends out!!!

Dropped off a Fender Strat and Tele to Brendan recently for some setups,and what can you say about a man who clearly sold his soul to the devil in exchange for superpowers in the dark arts of guitar luthiery. Amazing work on both guitars and I'm now a 15% better guitarist. 😂

Wizards at what they do. Had 2 of my well loved bass guitars repaired and upgraded, as well as cleaned and set up. Couldn’t be happier. They take the time to go over everything with you and know the best course of action for each instrument.

Real masterful dudes, very friendly and helpful with my issue and explained things for a long time before I put any money down. Prices are very affordable and their skill is very good. You won’t feel ripped off here.

Walked in off the street without an appointment with my epiphone acoustic which needed attention on the saddle. Brendan looked at it and repaired it on the spot while I waited..My epi sounds great now. Its thwe only place I will take my guitars to now on for maintenance and repairs.
