From my very first appointment I was very impressed. Dirk is very personable while maintaining his professionalism. Explained my options. I have just had a full knee replacement and all I can is WOW ..... to be out of pain !!!! My physio is very impressed with my alignment and recovery... I can't thank him enough... I booked the next knee in at my 6 week check up ... I am so excited to be out of pain

Dirk did a fantastic job on my total knee replacement using Stryker triathlon implant. Best thing that I have done in a long time. Very quick recovery and over 90 degree bend in less than a week. Couldn't be happier.

I had my right hip replaced 3 months ago and I am very happy with the entire experience and the results so far. I saw 6 different surgeons before I decided on Dirk and when I need my left one done which is not too far away I will go see him again. My hospital stay was also nice, I usually hate hospitals but it wasn't too bad this time. If you're reading this you're probably very worried about having your hip replaced, to be honest, your imagination is waaaay worse than what the surgery is. It's not even that painful, it's just very inconvenient if anything having to wait a few weeks to get back to life. Absolutely so happy, with the work dr Van Bavel did ,with my complete knee replacement.
He is there for you 100% if you have any problem or concern. Procedure was much easier than i expected and recovery was quick with minimal pain.

Had a recent hip replacement performed by Mr van Bavel. Could not be happier. There was comprehensive preparation for the procedure via the App, the hospital admission process was straight forward and the actual procedure was excellent. After only 6 weeks, I have no pain and am walking normally. I highly recommend Mr van Bavel.

Three weeks after the knee replacement I am walking around without aids - that has got to be good. Thank you Dirk.
However, living by myself in Regional Victoria co-ordination of travel arrangements to hospital was difficult when theatre times were not known until the last moment. Also, I was not aware where Rehab would be until after the operation.
Overall, I am very happy with the outcome.

On the 29th of March 2022 I had a full knee replacement with Mr Dirk Van Bavel. My whole experience has been excellent. Always well informed about the procedure and expected outcomes. On day 8 after surgery i saw the physiotherapist and he was extremely pleased with the amount of movement i already had . I have had a great result with a hip replacement six years ago and another great result from a knee replacement in November 2017. Dirk van Bavel was always happy to answer any questions I had. He was very patient with me and explained the procedure, what I should expect, what was involved after and the Physio I would need to do. It is so wonderful to be pain free and walking normally with ease. I appreciate his care, expertise and experience. Dirk established good rapport at the initial meeting, gave clear explanations as to what needed to be done and why and answered all my questions building trust. He used leading edge technology to support him with the surgery and the result has been very successful. I had bilateral knee replacement surgery, within 6 weeks I am walking 1-2 kilometres a day with diminishing pain as my strength returns. I highly recommend Dirk van Bavel for knee surgery.

I found the information and service I have received from Dirk Van Bavel, his staff and associated health professionals first class for my hip replacement which took place 6 weeks ago. I was well prepared with pre and post op exercises which have helped me enormously with a swift recovery.

Dirk van Bavel and his team replaced both of my hips during the past twelve months. Both were extremely successful. I have no pain, no medication required and I have no difficulty in walking, going up/down stairs, or doing any activity I ned to carry out.

I'm so happy I saw Dr Van Bavel I'd had years of knee pain which stopped me from doing things I loved like dance classes, gym and wearing heels. I'm now 3 months post op, no more knee pain, back at the gym and starting to wear heels again! Mr Dirk van Bavel performed knee replacement surgery on my right knee on 16 September 2019 at Epworth Eastern Hospital, Box Hill.

Mr van Bavel was a wonderful professional, down to earth and friendly man for whom I have the utmost respect.

My knee surgery has been a great success with a wonderful outcome as I can now, and have been able to for quite some time, walk 3 or more Ks without needing any support or rest. I didn't need painkillers after the first 10 days and am amazed at how quickly I was able to drive as it was my right knee that was replaced.

I would highly recommend Mr. van Bavel to anyone needing this type of surgery as he is definitely the best in my opinion.

Dirk and his team did a great job - they were professional, competent and confidence inspiring at every stage of the process. My total knee replacement was delayed a number of times as Dirk prudently minimised risk rather than responding to my impatience. The operation was done 2 1/2 weeks ago and while the rehab is inevitably a bit challenging initially, the results are now way ahead of expectations. A total knee replacement is a serious bit of surgery and I can wholeheartedly recommend Dirk and his extended team to do it.

My wife Lynette had a left knee replacement on February 3rd. We were both dreading the operation. However, the procedure,subject to pain control, has so far been brilliant. My wife is walking already, albeit slowly and we are overjoyed. We are absolutely delighted with Mr van Bavel's expertise and would have no hesitation recommending him to future patients!

Mr Van Bavel was absolutely confident & direct in his assessment of my hip issues, however his approach was always in a caring & courteous manner.
2 nights in Epworth Eastern (I highly recommend this ward) and back on my feet the next day.. Recovery has been surprising,. At 3 weeks post op, I can walk normally, climb stairs normally and with no pain whatsoever. This was a very successful outcome.

I had put off having a knee replacement for a number of years, finally succumbed. Dirk and his whole team have been amazing. I am post op, just over 3 weeks and progress is going well. Cannot recommend more highly.

I met Dirk van Bavel in August 2020 in the midst of the pandemic. I was suffering indescribable pain 24/7, extremely debilitated and reliant on heavy medication to get through each day, after a hip condition I had lived with all my life, deteriorated rapidly to the point of no return. I needed both hips replaced urgently, and it was evident that I would also need a femoral osteotomy, bilaterally, as well.

While not normally an anxious person, I was extremely anxious about the prospect of complex hip surgery and even more anxious about finding a surgeon who I felt I could trust and who I felt had the skills to manage the complexity of my condition. From the first time I met Dirk, I felt my anxiety levels decrease significantly. His understated confidence and willingness to respond to every question I had, in a calm and considered manner, was very reassuring. He was very patient as I delved into every aspect of the procedure and talked me through the xrays and scans, his surgical plan and the outcomes I could expect.

My R THR surgery was end November 2020, followed by the L THR in April 2021.

Fast forward to June 2021 and I am totally pain free and learning what it is like to live with normal functioning hips. I am so incredibly grateful and full of admiration for Dirk’s skill as a hip and knee surgeon and would happily recommend Dirk and his team to anyone considering hip replacement surgery. I had hoped for the best with both my surgeries but feel like I have got so much more from this experience – it has truly been life-changing and for that, there are no words to adequately describe how incredibly thankful I am.
