Walked in for dinner with no reservation, staff advised they had a number of walk-ins and that dinner would require a wait. We were not in a hurry, so happy to wait.
The food was worth the wait! Good, honest pub food! Great menu choices, specials board choices also made for a tough decision on what to have!
We settled on Fish and Chips for me - beautifully cooked Barramundi with a thin and crispy batter! ... and a 300g Scotch Fillet cooked rare ... with Garlic Butter for hubby! Local beef that was juicy and tasty!
Would not hesitate in recommending The Stump!
Staff were fabulous too!

Delicious dinner. Had the Mexican Palmie. It was very quiet on a Saturday night, but it was the middle of winter. Friendly helpful staff. Reasonably priced. Obviously, it's a spot for the locals.

As a group of 6, we ate here two nights in a row and were impressed with all the different main meals which we had to choose from. The specials were flying off the board at 6pm, and whilst disappointed we missed the ribs special on the first night, they made arrangements to have a serve ready for us the next night. Wait staff, particularly Andrea, were excellent and having a good laugh with us all making us feel very welcomed.

Oldest licensed hotel in Victoria. This is why we went there.
Cons: Took a while on food preparation
Pros:
Huge n tasty food portions
Lots of Parma options- tried Mediterranean Parma for the first time
Tap beer was nice

Food was excellent! There is absolutely nothing fancy about this place, apart from the food. We both ate off the specials menu because it looked so enticing, the waitress informed us that they change it every Saturday and confirmed that their chef is Sri Lankan (the specials menu kind of gives it away) . I’m normally a Chicken Parma guy when it comes to pub food, pretty safe and even the bad ones are OK, but tonight I went for the Seafood Chowder, something that I would never normally contemplate in a pub, it was brilliant! My lovely wife had the spiced slow cooked lamb shoulder, which was also fantastic. Meals are large! I’ve eaten much worse meals in much more fancy restaurants!
Unfortunately this is our last night in this Port, so won’t be able to come back any time soon, but if we were staying another day, I would be back tomorrow!

Not being local, we had no idea where to have a feed in Port Fairy. But chose The Caledonian because someone was just in the mood for a Guinness!
We weren’t disappointed.
The limitations of the Covid situation were handled seamlessly by the staff, who without exception were friendly and accommodating. It felt rude in the extreme, signalling to the waiters when it was time for another drink because the virus rules stipulate full table service. We have two perfectly good legs apiece to get up for a drink, and we felt terrible. But nothing seemed too much trouble. Two friendly people who clearly understand the meaning of hospitality.
We started with a garlic bread, and followed with their Asian fish stew and a serious steak sandwich. Both were faultless and filled us adequately. Which didn’t stop us having dessert, of course, and a generous serving of sticky rate pudding was just what the doctor ordered.
It was nice taking a break and getting out and about after seven months of feet up in the house with the telly for company.
The Caledonian was a great choice for our brief foray into the real world.

Only dined here. Monday night it was one of the few places open (post Covid lockdown).
Food was amazingly good. Big surprise as when we first entered, there were only two tables occupied. Every table filled with locals pretty quickly after that. Nice folk serving too. Would go back for the roast pork belly.

Also known as The Stump the longest licensed hotel in Victoria. We were told to come here for a meal and we are so glad we did. We were greeted by friendly staff Peta and Tegan as we walked through the door and into the past. This quaint old fashioned lounge was a perfect place for a meal. The dinner menu was full of old favourites with a few newer options. We ordered the nasi and mushroom risotto which were both absolutely fabulous, so tasty. I would even say my risotto was one of the best I have had. Cheers to the chef. We had just enough room left to share a sticky date pudding for dessert while we chatted to some locals sitting nearby.
The prices were all very reasonable. Service was quick The open wood fire and stone work on the walls made it the perfect place to relax
We would throughly recommend a visit here if you are looking for that good old Aussie pub experience.
Ps this was a return visit our first visit was great but this time even better so I had to renew review

High recommend dinner at The Stump. My wife and I were travelling through Port Fairy after exploring Great Ocean Road and stopped here for dinner after a long day. Amazing value on dinner meals and generous portions. The pub has a relaxed, local and friendly atmosphere and we felt so welcome. We would recommend this pub to anyone passing through the beautiful Port Fairy!

Had a great meal there on Monday, Steak was cooked to perfection and exactly as requested, everything was hot, great staff, historical building and look forward to going back next time in Port Fairy.
p.s. had a meal the previous night at the nice looking hotel across the road, steak was terrible probably the worst I have ever had, nearly all fat and the parts that were not was almost impossible to cut.

Great food. Dinner menu with friends, I had to try everyone's dish. All way above your standard pub food. Crispy salt n Pepper squid, home made lasagne sauce, really nice curry. Worth going if in town. 👍

A quiet little unassuming hotel on the edge of town. Typical decor for a country or outer coastal hotel. But there’s nothing typical about the Parma’s. A big appetite is required as the cut of chicken was the biggest and best I’ve had in years and cooked to perfection. I gave it a 9 out 10. FYI: I’m yet to give a 10.

We ate at the Caledonian two nights in a row.
Both times the meals were excellent, as was the customer service.
Classic country pub with a fantastic menu.

Absolutely gobsmacked how delicious our dinner was in this humble heritage pub!! Old fashioned chicken Kiev with smashed potatoes and peas..and perfectly cooked fresh brocollini. Partner had Tuscan chicken with divine mushroom and pea risotto and spiced lemon polloi. Can't describe how delicious. Yummo!!
