Derwent Estate Vineyard

We started our winery experience with a wine tasting, from Sparkling through Riesling, traditional Chardonnay, Chablis style Chardonnay, and Pinot Noir. The wines are very high quality, with our experience made all the more enjoyable and interesting by Dean’s explanations and insights. From there we made our way over to lunch at The Shed. The restaurant offers exceptionally high quality dishes, beautifully presented, with flavour combinations that delight!
Well worth a visit!

Beautiful winery overlooking the river that run their cellar door out of a charming, 1820s cottage.
Derwent Estate really has a wine for everyone’s tastes. The lovely Ren took us through about 12 great wines. It was difficult to pick a favourite! We were also treated to a delicious cheese platter, all while sitting on the veranda overlooking the river.
We didn’t have a chance to try the restaurant, but hopefully will on the next visit to Hobart.

For locals or visitors, Derwent Estate and its restaurant offers a perfect weekend escape on the shores of the Derwent Valley.
It’s an operating vineyard, with an excellent selection of wines and a great tasting room, as well as a fantastic restaurant in the Shed.
The restaurant offers a small and very high quality menu, supported by a great wine list, and allows you to dine with views over the vineyard and the Derwent River. We even got to watch the black faced sheep and their lambs frolic in the vineyard close to the restaurant.
Plenty of accessible parking, great and attentive staff and comfortable and spacious seating. It’s popular, so you need to book!

Very happy with my meal at Derwent Estate Restaurant and our waiter was absolutely lovely, he gave us really great tips about the wine to pick with our meal, very knowledgeable. I really recommend the small dish BBQ lamb ribs and the bread with beer butter! The fish was also delicious. This is a beautiful place lovely in summer and winter with a beautiful view. It is great for everyone as there is no a la carte mandatory which allows everyone to get what they want. Thank you for having us yesterday!

Excellent food and service. Staff went above and beyond to make our experience memorable, the chef even going so far as to make a special sauce for my meal to accommodate my allergies. Highly recommend!

Great wine, great location and fantastic platter food.
Wine at Derwent Estate is top notch and the view from the farm house is beautiful and relaxing.
Had a nice tour of the operation and the staff are super friendly.

Every mouthful was a flavour sensation. The chef even made silverbeet absolutely delicious.

We had just come from Stefans and the experience is completely different.

The Shed Restaurant is really lovely. The food is innovative, and tasty, and the wait staff friendly and helpful. I forgot to add how lovely the wine is too.

Food was fantastic, well balanced and thought out menu. Wine, as expected was of a very high standard. Don't spread the word too far, we need this for us.
Venue a bit loud, something to absorb the noise would have made the experience even better, though I'm sure that will be sorted sometime in the near future.

Good range of whites and nice Cab Merlot and Lime Kiln Pinot. Averages about $30 a bottle. Charming view of the Derwent river as well.

The house is from the 1830s and as a result the doorways are pretty low so make sure you duck if you’re above 6 foot.

Staff are very pleasant and waved the $5 tasting fee (though we also bought four bottles).

Close to Puddle Duck and a range of other wineries.

They’re planning some works on it so it’ll be shinier in the near future but right now it’s got a rustic charm and good wine.

A lovely tasting area overlooking the river. Particularly liked their sparkling, excellent wines across the range. Of interest a single clone Pinot Noir. They now have a restaurant also that looks great, though I did not dine there.

We had lunch there today for our wedding anniversary. It was such a treat! The shed was beautiful. Food was absolutely amazing. Great wine options. Staff were really friendly. Plus the view, we were looking down the Derwent valley and river, with so many swans swimming there, feeding and playing, just pleasant. Definitely our new favourite place.
There is 10 %surcharge on weekends , as an additional note.

One of the best cellars doors we have been to. Beautiful setting, delicious wine and lovely friendly staff. Super glad we found this place, will be looking for theirs wines back home...and savouring the bottles we brought :)

Beautiful location, wonderful service and great food.

One of the best wineries we've been to! Visually it was like something out of a postcard - gorgeous rustic buildings and stunning views everywhere you looked. The staff were so friendly and gave us a wonderful and informative tasting experience, and the wines were incredible. The perfect place to spend a few hours!!

Great little winery and cozy cellar door with heaps of character. The place can fill up very quickly but it is heaps of fun listening to Angela and their passionate team run us through the wines. Small batch boutique wines, with their standout pinot gris not disappointing. Delicious, fruity and bright this will be my wine for the summer.

Great little surprise package and with a stop if you got the time and on your way to Agrarian kitchen up the road.

Favourite winery of our Tassie trip. In fact we stopped in twice! So many palatable wines and a lovely cellar door. Staff were friendly and very accommodating. They sent back our wine collection as part of the Tassie dozen scheme and were very helpful with this process. Make this a must on your Tassie to do list 🍷
