Absolutely mind blowing to be standing on the northern most tip of Australia. It's a relatively easy walk to the top, and although only a short walk I suggest you allow a couple of hours to properly enjoy the trip and explore the cliffs to the east and west of the tip. Bring lots of sunscreen!

I did the Cape trip twice between 1986 and 89 when I was stationed in Brisbane in the army. Was lucky to do it with army vehicles and army mates. One up and back on DR 250 Suzuki's and the other in 110 Landrovers and Mercedes Uni Mogs. A must do trip for all those who dream about adventure and seeing the largest area of Wilderness in the work which is Cape York

Travelling north from Cairns on the Seaswift freighter MV Trinity, we plied our way through the inner reef and rounded the tip of Cape York bound for Horn & Thursday Islands. After spending a full day & night at Thursday Island, we set sail for Seasia, on the west coast of the cape. We spent two days at Bamaga, Cape York Penisula Lodge. We hired a 4wd and drove to "the tip". An easy drive, but narrow road/track, unsealed with corrigation. We stopped at "the tip" car park, and started our ascent to the hill overlooking the top end of Australia. Not an easy climb, as described by others. No pathway, very rocky. We settled on stopping at the last cairn, there where a few we passed on our trek, and looked out over the turquoise waters dotted with small islands. During low tides, you can avoid the hill trek and walk along the waters edge around to the tip. Signs to alert of crocodiles are in the area, so all care should be taken. Also, visit early morning and take plenty of water, as the heat builds rather quickly.

We had a mini break at The Temple. Our hosts Katy and Jason were a lot of fun. We opted to have them cook our meals and the food was delicious. We stayed in the Shed Re La - very comfortable and the outdoor shower and toilet overlooking the rainforest with water views - sublime.
Jason Watkins is a very talented musician and played for us one evening. The communal bar and eating area meant we could have a chat with the other guests.
We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and highly recommend a stay here.

Life changing experience. If you get a chance to travel Cape York just do it. Allow as much time as you can as there is so much to see. Take your time on the roads/corregations. Do your homework and make sure the roads are accessible at the time of year your planning to go. Loyalty bay caravan park at Seisa is great. Clean and right on the beach. Great fishing off Seisa Wharf.
