Great Historic spot

Ended up staying in the "guesthouse" out the back in 2001 with a group of friends. Our car brokedown after we decided to pull in for lunch on a dirty road about 3 or 4km from Salt Creek. The local mechanic was unavailable to pick us up, so his wife came out to use initially to cast her less than expert eye over our vehicle (blowing the fused for pretty much electrical component of the car) she then gave two of us a lift to "Salt Creek" charging a $20 "taxi fare" and about $60 as a "call-out fee", before walking into the servo, which it transpired she owned, and was the only place to buy food at the time, and ended up forking out another $40 or so on hotdogs - can't remember if they were nice or not - and then walked back to the car.
The following day the mechanic arrived and picked up the car, unfortunately he needed to get a part flown in, so we stayed in the cabin behind the shop... by the end of three days we'd spent what for backpackers was a small fortune in the place.
While it was an expensive experience, it was memorable and we learned a valuable lesson, that a mechanic's spouse is not a substitute for a mechanic, when you need to get a starter motor repaired.

Closed to the public but toilets are 1.5kms down the road, oil rig was worth a look.

Its closed. Someone please remove this place from the map. No petrol station nearby
