Outstanding in every aspect with best meatballs I have ever eaten! The service was impeccable, with all staff warm, helpful and all round the type of people you enjoy being around. I had the beef meatballs with tomato sauce and smashed potato. I can’t recommend highly enough. Fantastic environment. I can’t wait to go back!

Happen to stumble across this place. Great little place tucked away in Melbourne. Staff were amazing. Food was yum, cheese and meat board could have done with bread lol. A bit steep for chips $14, but they were good. Overall we had a great meal in a nice quiet spot

We visited yesterday on the occasion of my partner's birthday. I booked our space online mentioning the occasion. So when we got there, the waitress led us to a nice, cosy, secluded booth - something we didn't expect or request.

What caught my attention was the ambience and atmosphere. Dimly lit, it was a very comfortable and welcoming respite to my sensitive sensories.

My partner ordered the classic meatballs and spaghetti while I ordered chicken meatballs with Italian tomato sauce sitting on the day's pasta, the name of which I can't pronounce even at gunpoint, nor would I dare to. So, please accept my apologies.

What's in the name when the taste takes you to a different universe. The warm velvety tomato sauce accompanied with tender and juicy chicken meatballs went perfectly with the soft pasta. The shredded cheese bound all of it together. I am grateful to the waitress for the recommendation.

The crew was so welcoming, attentive and ensuring that we have a great experience, which we did. What I particularly noticed, as I was looking around in awe of the atmosphere, was that the crew had a friendly rapport with each other. They seemingly enjoy each other's company and banter, enjoy where they work, and enjoy working there and taking care of the customers.

Upon checking out, I mentioned that while it was my partner's second visit, it was my first. The waitress said, "First of many to come".

Truer words haven't been spoken. I will indeed return.

Short on time, and happily accommodated for a meal prior to Moulin Rouge.
However, the young lady at front of house was very welcoming, and met our needs perfectly.
I had a meal of pork meat balls, pasta and a tomato based sauce.
I think a Sicilian red wine to accompany the most delicious meal.

My friend and I made a booking for dinner before our musical at the Regent Theatre, which was just a very short walk away.

I really enjoyed the atmosphere and ambience. The food was great, I highly recommend the pan fried gnocchi with the creamy mushroom sauce. The wait staff were fantastic and just made the whole experience even better. They were friendly, attentive, approachable and had a thorough understanding of the menu.

I will definitely be back!

Absolutely love Meatballs, great atmosphere, lovely staff and incredible food. An absolute staple of flinders lane, somewhere that’s great for a special occasion or a regular Friday night feed. Couldn’t recommend this more highly.

Food was exceptional! The meatballs here really lived up to its name. Absolutely loved the burrata and beef carpaccio that we had for starters. Also had a lovely end to the meal with the tiramisu. Staff were super friendly and the place also had nice outdoor seating

The Meatball & Wine Bar was an absolute pleasure, the food is incredible. My personal favourite so far is the Pork Meatballs with creamy mushroom and truffle oil pasta, absolutely delicious. The cheeseboard was fantastic too. Highly recommend, the team have been so lovely and welcoming. Definitely coming back.

I have been in Melbourne for three weeks now and I have yet to find a place that has absolutely “wow’d” me:

This place left me smiling when I walked walked out the door. For context, I came on a Thursday night to get dinner. I was by myself and scoping out some good places to eat. I stumbled upon this place. Upon arriving, I was welcomed by a friendly sever and was sat immediately. This was a gentleman by the name of Tahl.

Following this, I was even more delighted to have Tahl take the time to walk through wine selections with me as well as give some GREAT recommendations on food. He was receptive to what I was looking for and found the perfect meal to fit what I was looking for. Never think that you can’t eat Italian if you’re aiming to stay on the healthier side. I ordered the peperontona with chicken meatballs and pesto salsa verde. This left me speechless. Absolutely amazing along with their glasses of Montepulciano.

To end, Cam, one of the tenders, also made sure to check in on me. He reccomended a phenomenal dessert and continued attentive service!

Overall, this place did not dissapoint. Between the friendly service and amazing food, you won’t think twice on where to spend your evening.

You’ll want to come here hungry and you’ll always leave satisfied.

Can’t go past the classic pick a meatball, pick a sauce and pick a side with no wrong choices.

The food is rich, very flavourful and delicious. Perfect to have with a glass of your favourite vino - or choose something else from their extensive drinks menu.

Service was friendly and attentive, but not intrusive.

Had an awesome date night, look forward to coming back again to taste more of the menu.

Meatballs and Wine

What is a non-drinking vegequarian doing at a restaurant called Meatballs and Wine you ask. Good question! I have to admit that in recent searches for new dining options before a show I have overlooked this place purely because of its name.

I guess it is a bit like a book and its cover, don’t judge a restaurant by its name. When a friend recommended this place I looked at him bizarrely and he said, wait a minute, hear me out. Not all the balls are meat and the other bits are good too I was told. Well, he was right.

Before taking in Tim Minchin we dined at Meatballs and Wine in Flinders Lane and were very pleasantly surprised. This eatery also doubles as a wine bar and has a very nice setting. Before I talk food let’s talk service. The team was just brilliant. The service was high class with lots of smiles, good knowledge of the menu, and just excellent at making you feel welcome.

We began with the special sliders featuring lobster and prawn with watercress and mustard. Yum! Wonderful flavours.

To the meatballs, or not quite meatballs. The idea is simple, choose your “meatball”, choose a sauce and choose something for it to sit on. You can add some entrees, sides or salads as well.

We decided to combine the fish ball (Barramundi with dill and lemon) with the Italian tomato Sauce and pappardelle pasta. The second choice was the vegie ball (quinoa, zucchini and carrot) with a creamy mushroom sauce served with rustic potato mash. Our side was Primavera salad of leaves, peas, mint dressing and goat’s cheese.

The barramundi was full of flavour and work really well with the tomato and pasta combine. The tomato sauce was very yummy and I could even have had the dish without the fish ball. It was better with it. The mushroom sauce was my favourite part of the meal and really highlighted the vegie balls and delicious good old-fashioned mash. The salad was fresh and kept your palette alive.

This is a relaxed dining experience and probably really suits a night of comedy or even a concert. There is no fuss to Meatballs and Wine but do not underestimate it because of that being said. The food is very good, the service super-friendly and the venue comfortable and welcoming.

I suggest you give it a try at 135 Flinders Lane, Melbourne. Cheers!

Visited here for dinner last weekend, we didn't have a reservation but the staff were more than happy to assist and found us a table quickly. It was one of the best meals we had during our stay in Melbourne. We shared the spaghetti and meatballs which were incredible, the pear & parmesan salad which was so fresh and delicious and the mac and cheese - also delicious! Really great, friendly & attentive service as well. Highly recommend!

A couple of friends and I organised a catch-up and decided to check out the Meatball and Wine Bar, so we made a booking for Tuesday evening.

The place was at probably 70% capacity and the atmosphere was really nice — good, dimmed lighting and good music.

The service was absolutely fantastic. We were assisted by (I think) there staff members and they were all gorgeous — they had genuine smiles, they were polite, and overall great to deal with. They made us feel very welcome and comfortable.

The food was good, but not great. We had the beef, pork, and lamb meatballs and I had mine with tagliatelle while my two friends had the rustic potato smash.

Although I was a fan of the meatballs, I found the tagliatelle stuck together (in a lump) and the potato smash was lacking flavour.

The meatballs, however, were very delicious.

The drinks were good and I highly recommend the house Espresso Martini, which has Nutella in it 🤤

We paid $210 (3 people) for 3 dinners, 3 cocktails, 3 glasses of wine, and a shared entree, which was reasonable.

I’d definitely go back and try something else — mainly thanks to the great service.

Located on the Paris-end of Flinders Lane is the Meatball & Wine Bar - a cosy Melbourne institution dishing up wholesome Italian favourites and fine wine 🍷

The main menu concept is their build your own “Balls and All” where you can choose a meatball type, a sauce, and a base for your balls to site on - the combinations are endless! 🙌 Highly recommend the Pork Meatballs with Pesto Salsa Verde and Peperonata - the pork balls were so juicy and the pesto paired well with the roast capsicum base! 🌿

They also have a range of other Italian dishes on the menu as well as enticing options on the Specials Board! We tried the special Spicy Beef Meatballs with Vodka Sauce which were packed with flavour - the beef balls were so consistent, soft and tender! 😍 The creamy Stracciatella was the perfect starter with the sweetness of the baked apple 🍎

But the star of the night has to be their house-made gnocchi! 💫 These were by far the softest, creamiest gnocchi I’ve ever tried - plus they’re pan-fried to give them a crispy golden exterior 🤤 Definitely a must try!

What we tried:
🧀 Stracciatella & Baked Apple ($28)
🧆 Build-Your-Own-Meatballs: Pork Meatballs with Pesto Salsa Verde on Peperonata ($31)
🍝 SPECIAL: Spicy Beef Meatballs with Vodka Sauce, Mafaldine Pasta, Peperoncino + Garlic Bread ($36)
🌟🥔 House-made Gnocchi with Creamy Mushroom Sauce ($32)
🍷 Astoria Pinot Nero, Triveneto, Italy ($17)
