Kim Sing is an institution here in Melbourne. I've been going there since 2007. They've moved a couple of times during that period.

It's been a while since I visited Kim Sing, so I was surprised to see their prices are still very reasonable - $12.50 for their famous chicken steak on rice (add $1 to change from steam rice to fried rice). And do not forget to have their homemade chilli - it's so good.

During lunch time, it's guaranteed that it'll be very busy, but the food comes out very fast.

PS: chicken steak on rice, chicken steak & vegs on rice and chicken steak & egg on rice are all $12.50. Most of the menu items are reasonably priced (if I remember it right, mostly are under $15).

Outstanding rough and ready Chinese food place specialising in hearty food and down at heel decor. The food is tasty and well priced and the serves are substantial. The food comes out rapidly too. I loved my chicken, vegetables and rice. My partner loved her meal too. We were in and out and sated with a minimum of fuss here and with our bank account barely lessened. It’s a winner

Lovely old school Chinese restaurant that serves delicious pork and chicken chops with white/ fried rice. An egg is an additional $1. Very friendly owner and staff. Lady at the counter was always smiling and very warm. Love the place will come back. I asked for less rice on my plate.

I was needing a lunch that would warm me up at the start of Melbourne’s cold winter. And this casual home style place met all of my needs. I ordered the beef noodle soup and a 1/2 order of dumplings. The food came out fairly quick and tasted so amazing. I added hot chili oil to the soup for my taste which kicked it up. I was pleased that the soup broth was not too salty. The dumplings were steamed to perfection and had a nice texture and tasty filling. An amazing lunch that was filling, seasoned well and inexpensive.

Initially was unsure of this place due to the outlook, and I wasn’t able to see the name of the restaurant (which later I found on the side). But I’m glad I tried it as their food is delicious and inexpensive. Also reminded me of the hawker concept in Singapore/Malaysia.

Service is fast, and it’s amazing to see that although there is only one chef, everything is running so smoothly due to their great team work.

Will definitely be back to try their other dishes!

So glad I found you again, went today for the first time since 2009 and my goodness the taste and memories of when it was in Port Phillip Arcade came flooding back, ordered the honey chicken, wanton soup and plum beef with 2 drinks for $48.50, the soup is big enough for two people. An absolute must if you want fast and very tasty food.

Food is excellent. As a busy professional, this restaurant is perfect for me as the service is quick, food well reasonably priced and the overall taste will make you keep comoing for more to trial out their other dishes. My only suggestion is to go a bit earlier, as lunch hour (between 12.30 and 1) can have you waiting in the queue for a while but you cant blame the restaurant for that, as the food quality and service is so darn good that everyone wants to grab a bite from this delicious joint.

Kim Sing is a very popular spot for my colleagues and I. We’ve been coming here for the last 5 years, from back in the day when they were @ Port Phillip Arcade to now. The menu is extensive with over 100 different dishes all ranging from $11-$13! My go-to dish is no.25 - Pork Chop & Egg on rice! If you’re feeling hungry, add some of their dimsims to your order! Huge juicy dimsims priced at $2.50 for 2! Such a steal! They also have house made chilli oil on every table! Highly recommend this spot!!!

Simple, quick and delicious. I ordered the chicken and pork with rice with extra mixed vegetables, total $15. Both the chicken and pork are battered and deep fried with a nicely spiced seasoning, with a sauce on top. Came out in about 2min, but was still hot and fresh. A no brainer when I don’t know where to go for lunch.

Amazing to find this place again after it moved from Port Phillip Arcade. Love the chicken chop or pork chop on rice. Used to be a queue miles long for these however now it's quiet but the chicken is the same great taste, quality and large serving size

One of the rare cheap eats in melbs- and so worth it in with the portion. Get the chicken chop.

If you know this place, you know why you go here! I've been going to this place since 2007 and It's not just all about the chicken steaks on rice and their amazing chilli oil either! Change of location and closed for quite a while, this is the type of place that has its own cult following (me included). Many dishes to choose from and fast service perfect for a lunch time break. Love a little Kim Sing fix when I can get it!

Not going to lie when Kim Sing closed down a few years ago my heart was broken, post covid lock downs they place looks fantastic and the food is as good as it ever was, it still almost beats you back to the table.

Get on the chicken steak with fried rice and pile on the scrumptious chill oil. The special feuded rice is also amazing.

I can’t wait for the city to be a buzz and the line is back out the door on a Friday for lunch. So happy to have you back in my life.
