One of the best Japanese restaurants in Melbourne. Food looks and tastes good. Crab croquette is so yummy!! Seafood fried rice is good too. Raindrop cake is so cute, must try!! Personally don’t like the banana fritter - the only thing in the restaurant that we disliked haha. Highly recommend.

Definitely recommended the Sukiyaki Beef and the JUMBO TACO set! The restaurant offers a very nice ambience with soft lighting. Great customer service and delicious food as well as yummy drinks! The Yuzu Sake is a MUST TRY too!
Definitely worth checking it out when you are around Chapel Street!

Delicious modern Japanese food which balances creativity with traditional taste. Set in a lofty dining area, the staff really make you feel welcome and excited to try all their food!

I would highly recommend anything deep fried as they always have such an amazing crunch - our favourite was the sweet and sour eggplant!

The drinks and desserts are also fantastic with some truly out there ideas which are a fun experience.

Would highly recommend anyone to come try it out - we definitely will be back!

Pretty good. The price is on the high side but the quality is pretty good and everything seems fresh. Get the raindrop cake to jiggle

Recommend the deluxe sushi platter, panko crumbed oysters, Seafood fried rice, scallops and prawns.

Quite place, very clean and could say fine dining. Great choice for family dinner or a dinner date. The customer service is spot on 10/10. You’d better bring an empty stomach with you if you’re thinking of sushi or fried rice because the portion is big. I don’t recommend the fried oysters which I found too oily. I love the agedashi tofu, very refreshing. The crab croquettes are so gooddddd, but a little bit oily (of couse yes, cause it’s croquettes 😆 )Sashimi is a potluck, sometimes it’s good, sometimes it’s not fresh (but in the most recent visit, we got them fresh luckily and the sauce is to delicious . Love it!). I took my partner here a lot of times already and she loves it. Just a request to Grand Lafayette if you could possibly adding some noodles soup or some soup apart from miso soup please. That’s it. Overall, 7.9/10

10/10, really delicious food, great price, and great quantity and quality of meals. Super easy to order food with their system (pay and order on your phone and there’s photo example of all the food). Great place to come have dinner and it’s definitely worth the drive for me from Canberra! Dessert was my first time trying it, it’s fun, different, and really delicious! It’s not overly sweet so you can actually enjoy it and not feel sick from all the sugar like you do at most places. I’ll be definitely coming back!

Presentation, quality and taste were spot on👌👌👌 Dishes were presented with so much love and care 🫶 I highly recommend the chicken katsu curry don, karaage bao, beef tataki, agedashi tofu and of course the desserts! I am a sucker for tempura and had it all to myself - no sharing 😂

It was such an interesting place, good food, good vibe and friendly services. Oh where do we begin, all I can say is if you have not tried it yet when you are in Prahan; you must.
Foods were delicious and fresh, it is more towards modern Japanese style cuisine.
It’s really is and interesting place to dine, must try their crispy dango.

This restaurant is massive, you could book In for many people and different occasions and functions.
I would be definitely be coming back here again.

From the service, to the food, to the flawless service time, there really wasn't anything to fault. Ignore the price for once, go out splurge on some food fine food, because this place is worth it.

Fantastic food! Went there for my 45th birthday. I tend to go out for the food itself, and was surprised and how good these dishes were. Absolutely fantastic chefs. My partner/kids prefer experiences, however the atmosphere here was different from the idea they hoped for
It seems to be more casual/cafe-style, but had serious potential to scale up as a higher end restaurant. Service was first-rate, prompt, friendly and attentive. Cocktails were fantastic. We used an Eat Club voucher, so ordered quite a bit more food and drink than I normally would to celebrate, and was great to not stress over the bill. Recommend using that app and also supporting businesses like this. Thanks for a great birthday dinner.

Highly recommend the Kazan sushi rolls, soft shell crab bao, Japanese pankeki, chirashi bowl (sashimi was fresh), chicken katsu don, pork belly don and the yuzu antidote cocktail (it serves like an iv drip)

My partner and I had an absolutely wonderful time at this restaurant! The staff were warm, inviting and attended. The food was really good and beautifully presented. We can't recommend their sweet and sour eggplant enough. If you're looking for a memorable dining experience, this restaurant is a must-visit in Prahran.

The vibes are so grand and charming here, with a cozy ambiance and bright and spacious decor. The menu is very elaborate and they offer so many varieties of Japanese dishes.

What we had here:

Oyster Tempura, so perfectly crisp and juicy oyster inside, must try. Very yum.

Baked Scallops, the most divine and tastiest baked scallops I’ve ever tried, very addictive and amazing entrée, strongly recommended.

Takoyaki, soft, mushy octopus balls, so perfectly cooked, loved it a lot.

Japanese Pankeki, the taste is very refreshing and crunchy rice pancakes went perfectly well with fish sashimi, tobiko, scallions and soy-yolk. A very unique yet a delectable Japanese dish.

Chicken Katsu curry, such a satisfying Katsu curry, perfect for winter afternoon lunch, strongly recommended.

Prawn fried rice, very flavourful and served with fish caviar and juicy prawns, must try.

We also had a lychee and strawberry crush, both were very fresh and yummy to drink.

We are definitely going back here soon to try all their awesome, Japanese food and drinks. The prices are bit steep, but then again you will only get great quality of food, quantity wise, it’s okay.

The service is friendly and the team of staff here are all very helpful and welcoming in nature.

We were invited into Grand Lafayette for a dining experience during the week. We were trying out their newly launched Japanese All you can eat menu. The menu looked so good and it took us awhile to choose what to order.
For drinks we had the Gin-ger bread which was a Christmas cocktail. It was sweet and refreshing! The Mimosa Poison (Grand Signatures Cocktails) looked like an experiment went wrong!! It has an eyeball on the plate! It was a fun drink and tasted great.

We had a delicious selection of dishes as you can see in our photos (there were too many to name) We also had a Raindrop Cake each.

Grand Lafayette has friendly happy service. The food was served quickly and there was nice background music.
The Japanese All you can eat is great value for money. The drinks and desserts are extra.
We would definitely visit again.
