Wonderful experience with my best friend in Melbourne. We lived nearby and had this meal to celebrate our achievements. This atmosphere here is tranquil and serene. Food is yummy 😋

Amazing food, their sashimi are fresh (even during lockdown). I ordered takeaway from them via Google in advance and food are ready by agreed time, no waiting time needed.

The food was amazing with great ambience. Very authentic Japanese food that brought us back to japan! Fresh ingredients, high quality sashimi prepared professionally, traditional food with amazing flavor, tempura was spot on, staff is very friendly and attentive. Highly recommended!

Excellent Japanese food. Fish is fresh. Get shimesaba if you like mackerel. Tsukune is tender moist and flavourful. Get the hotate butter if it's on the menu.

Great value for price - quiet cozy Japanese restaurant with sushi chef and sushi counter, the nigiri set had a good variety of fish and all fish was good. Need more places like this in Melbourne, with actual Japanese food

first time dining out here. Very good service, friendly and immediately greeted & seated. Comfy atmosphere, just finished work and great place to relax & eat. Ordered plenty dishes to share. Also tried the plum wine & to finish off had the red bean Japanese waffle. Would recommend & come back.

Brilliant atmosphere and food, the sushi is served incredibly fresh, and is presented amazingly. The meat is cooked skilfully and all the sauces and such are made in house. Highly recommend!

Excellent food from the kitchen and the Sushi/Sashimi is to die for (remember to ask for the specials). Service is always efficient and friendly. Good selection of Sakes. Warm atmosphere but can get a bit loud when the main dining area is full, choose to sit in the rear for a quieter time.

Food is superb. This place is a Melbourne institution. There is a good reason why Akita has been around for over 30 years. That being said, time in between dishes can be a little extreme. Spent 2.5 hours at the restaurant for a table of 5, with only about 30 minutes spent eating. I recommend coming here at opening to avoid long cook times.

I really liked the food here and for the price it was reflected through the quality of ingredients. High quality sushi and sashimi. Some of the nicest tuna I have had in a while. Staff were extremely friendly and polite. Would strong reccomred for traditional Japanese food.

Amazing Japanese restaurant tucked away in North Melbourne. Come hungry and thirsty so you can try everything. Wait staff and chef are so hospitable and are eger to please. This is no basic Japanese restaurant do come prepared to pay for that aspect but you will remember it and the food is so worth it

I've eaten here only twice in the last ten years and for the life of me I can't think why that hasn't been at least twenty times. Forty times. I need to remember to come back here often.

Akita is away from the center of town, and it doesn't have the hustle and the noise of an inner-city Japanese restaurant.

The lighting is dimmer. The music not so loud. The staff speak softly and politely.

They still dealt with my two boisterous, young children without making us feel like we were goblins at a feast.

The menu is large, and varied. There's a sushi master who knows what he's doing with fish. The sake menu is also large, and varied. Sure, they have European wine too, but come on.

Everything we ate was good. From the edamame to the taiyaki with black sesame ice cream. A lot of what came in between was seafood.

We ordered a list of small dishes to share, and rather than bringing them all at once, they served each one in sequence, fresh and hot. With pickled vegetables on the table to refresh the palate between each dish. It was magical.

Book ahead for Friday or Saturday, roll the dice on the other nights. We walked in with six people just after opening, and a table of eight walked in around 7:30 with no hassles.

A truly delightful restaurant that has stpod the test of time in a suburb where restaurants change hands more frequently than residents change hands.
It has a dedicated Sushi bar and a chef who takes true pride in his work plus a wonderful range of sake's to compliment each dish. It's hard to recommend it highly enough.

Akita has been serving North Melbourne for decades with consistently high quality Japanese food. Great menu and good sized servings keep us coming back. They also have Japanese beer available, and do takeout. Highly recommended.

A very pleasant experience in a classic styled Japanese restaurant. Very happy with the food service and atmosphere. The main challenge was not ordering too much.

Absolutely exceptional Japanese food, wonderful professional service, and a really comfortable casual venue. This is the most impressive Japanese meal I’ve had in a long, long time, thank you so much.
