Ben has been an absolutely fantastic teacher!

He is calm, skilled and a very talented drummer (and musician).

In just a few lessons he dramatically improved my technique, exposed me to intricate details of drumming I didn't appreciate before, taught me just the right amounts of music theory, fixed my posture and much much more.

I went from barely being able to sustain a simple beat and keep time to jamming along, improvising and just feeling a whole lot better around the kit.

If you want a balanced and sustainable way to improve your drumming - I can't recommend it enough.

Oh...and the studio is awesome!

Highly recommend Play Drums Melbourne! My son has been learning with Ben and previously Joachim for the last two years and it's been an amazing experience for him. Ben offers one-on-one lessons with the very best equipment; he is so patient and always supportive, my son just loves going to his lessons. Ben has been great with certain songs request that my son has wanted to learn how to play and encouraging him to step out of his comfort zone by performing at talent shows and online competitions. We feel extremely lucky for our son to have this activity and enjoyment in his life and if you're keen to ever learn the drums, this is the place for you.

Joachim is a fantastic drum teacher - I really can’t recommend him highly enough. My son has been learning drums with him for a term now and absolutely loves his lessons. When he first started, my son was keen to start playing songs immediately despite having no musical experience. I was worried that he might lose interest if he found that he couldn’t do that, but I was so impressed (and my son was delighted!) that Joachim had him learning songs from the very first lesson, while also teaching him some theory and practical exercises at the same time. Joachim is clearly a very talented and experienced drummer himself as well as being a patient and understanding teacher. If you’re looking for an excellent drum teacher who ‘gets’ why you or your child want to learn drums and is able to individualise his lessons to match your needs, I highly recommend Joachim.

I have been taking drumming lessons with Joachim for a few months now and I am really enjoying his teaching style, which applies the learned drumming techniques and skills to an ever changing range of new songs. He gives great and helpful tips and also provides music sheets in order to learn how to play the drums like a pro. The pace is great and with Joachim being a very patient teacher, I really enjoy my lessons. I can also see a clear improvement in my skills each week. I would highly recommend him to anyone looking to learn how to play drums.

I'm a mature age novice who had never played the drums before receiving a gift voucher for some lessons with Joachim. I can happily say I'd recommend Joachim to anyone looking to get started or to advance their skills. A great teacher who knows his subject & has the patience to work with me as a beginner. And yes after I used up the vouchers I continued with the lessons.

Joachim is a very patient and encouraging teacher, he wants the best out of his students and does his best to make sure he brings that out in you, I’m still quite new to drums but feel I’ve learnt so much in just the few lessons I’ve had, I always walk out of my lessons feeling positive and inspired. I would definitely recommend him to anybody who wants to get started or even to develop their playing further in a really comfortable and fun environment.

Adult total newbi here, I've got a few lessons as a bday gift, because I had a dream to learn to play drums. Joachim is unbelievable patient and persistent teacher. I came to the drums relatively late in life. I was 39 and had always wanted to give it a try. I tried online lessons for a while but i needed someone who could watch me and help me get the fundamentals right. I also had no idea what i was doing and needed someone to lay out a plan for me. Joachim did all of those things while making it fun and enjoyable. 4 years later I still attend regular lessons, I play in a band and I think of Joachim more as a friend than a teacher.

My son (Valentino) was having private lessons with Joachim every Thursday until he relocated to Melbourne. He loved his lessons so much and still plays drum today. Brisbane misses you! All the very best in Melbourne. We couldn’t recommend his lessons more highly. Very good with kids too 👍🏼
