Lovely little find in Queen Vic Market 🥰 They have a big selection of pre-loved books. Was in the store to look for British food history and found some good ones. The lady at the til was super friendly and helpful. Definitely coming back!

An absolutely delightful shop that covers all methods/cuisines and diets. The owner is helpful and lets you browse as long as you like. Reasonably priced and well worth the visit whether attending the market or not

This was my first visit and won't be the last. Great variety of new, used and fabulous vintage options, some signed and others super niche. Helpful staff were very friendly and knowledgeable.

One of the best bookshops in the world. I've shopped here multiple times, and every experience has been excellent. The owner/operators always extend gracious hospitality, and their range is unsurpassed. I can't commend this business highly enough.
Thankyou Books for Cooks!

One of my favourite places in Melbourne if you’re cookbook inclined. A mix of the latest and a huge wonderful treasure trove of second hand.

Amazing little shop with all kinds of books around the topics of cooking, baking, food and drinks; from all areas of the world, and with a selection that goes from vintage rare-to-find (maybe nostalgic to some) to modern day. The location next to the market makes it ideal to check it out while shopping or visiting the market.

For those of you who love reading books and cooking, here is a company I can recommend.

Books for Cooks: new and old books about wine, food and the culinary arts - run by the formidable pairing of Tim and Amanda. Some of you may remember their shop used to be in Fitzroy, but from 2018 moved to their current location.

They are situated in Queen Victoria Market 115-121 Victoria St and currently, orders through their website pick up or delivery. *They have free delivery if you are in their 5km lockdown radius and not only that - they hand-deliver their order. Mine, delivered in COVID-19 safe packaging came on a Saturday evening - now that is dedication. Thank you.

I ordered: Melanie Dunea's - 'My Last Supper - the next course', which I have wanted for a while as it delves into what famous Chefs would eat and so forth for their last meal. Plus one recipe and great profile photos of each Chef taken by Melanie, a professional Photographer.

Drop into these guys once we are out of lockdown or hop online and see what gems you can find! Something for everyone.

I went to this beautiful place almost seven years ago now. Was just trying to search for a similar shop here in Devon, UK… and Books for Cooks popped up. Memory flashback with nothing but positivity for this place; a real place of comfort for a solo traveller. Wish we had a store like yours here in the Southwest of England.

Great store. I was looking for gift and had quite a hard request but little to no knowledge. The person at the counter took a lot of time to show me around, show me various alternatives and explained a lot to each book. I actually learned some interesting facts. Defenetly recommending this store.

Definitely the best foodie bookshop in the Southern Hemisphere. No matter what your taste (sorry for the pun), it's here, along with a vast selection of books of the devil's drink in all its glorious forms, also lots of food related travel, biographies and just about anything related to sitting around a table, sharing food, drink and good company.

Excellent selection of books, historic, iconic, current, trending, etc. They've got it all. The service is superb and totally passionate. They're happy to let you browse on your own, or will fill you with knowledge, inspiration & ideas if you let them! Please support this lovely local independent!

This place is an absolute trap if you love cookbooks. There are new and second-hand books as well as an extensive collection of food related historical pamphlets. The staff are incredibly knowledgeable. The ambience is like an Oxford dons private library.

I love Books for Cooks so much! If you have an interest in cooking or food or if you work in the industry, Books for Cooks is somewhere you must visit. Old books, new books, journals, technical books, beautiful home baking books, all the books. Take some time, visit the market, visit Tim and Amanda, get some great recommendations, take a break, get a coffee at market lane, come back, buy that one you can’t resist, get a great gift for your friend who loves food. It’s a must for chefs, pastry chefs, bakers, wine buffs, wine lovers, FOH, friends of the above, lovers of books and book shops. I know this review is rather gushing, however I’m a confessed cook book addict, bakery owner, food lover, baker and pastry chef. It’s a special place to me. Do visit.

I think I've found nirvana! Such an impressive collection of new and used cookbooks, overwhelming in fact! The staff is out of this world: knowledge, friendly and genuinely helpful. My only warning - set a budget before you walk in the door! I completely, utterly and happily blew mine!!
