The store was so neat n comparably spacious with many different kinds of books. Wanna visit again!

READINGS in Carlton is my favorite READINGS store. This store is READINGS flagship store on historic Lygon Street in Carlton.
A cozy place for book lovers, with organized shelves, inviting ambiance and warm lighting.

I love this store. Books, staff, music, and atmosphere are part of a great experience to live. Every time I have the chance, I love going there to find what I am after or just to check out new arrivals while having a peaceful and relaxing time 🤗

Simply the best bookstore in Melbourne! Always knowledgable, helpful, and full of info across a very wide variety of literature. The perfect place for browsing or to find/order an obscure title you can't find anywhere else. I love their mini staff reviews on some titles that are placed under said book on the shelf. Their seasonal reading guides are also fantastic and free to take with you. There are some gift ideas, graphic novels, DVDs, CDs, and vinyl available, including some Readings/Carlton merchandise. The best place to go while away an afternoon before enjoying coffee or dinner on Lygon St or a movie at Nova.

Recently purchased "American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer" and received fantastic customer service at Readings Carlton. I was helped by Samantha over the phone who patiently assisted me with locating and placing the book on hold and informing me about the faults of the book as it was the last copy available, which allowed me to make an informed decision before purchasing the book. As I entered the store to make the purchase, I was then greeted with a friendly face at the checkout counter. Thank you all for your excellent customer service! Will definitely return again - great store with a large variety of books and friendly staff.

With Infinitely amazing aesthetics and sheer opulence, not to mention always being well stocked with outstanding books, Readings Carlton has invariably become my go bookshop when I feel an immense need to stock up on my all time favourite author Stephen King,and delve into the world of horror fiction, which in my humble opinion Stephen King does all so well. The staff that work at this charming book store are always so friendly and accommodating and are highly diligent and committed in going out of their way to ensure that you enjoy your shopping experience at this remarkable bookshop. In conclusion to my review and in the interest of truth and veracity, if you are a passionate reader, and are in dire need of purchasing some books from your favourite authors,then I highly and vehemently encourage that you try Readings Carlton, they truly have a vast array of books 📚 that will undoubtedly suit your particular reading needs or passions,simply put,I firmly believe that Readings Carlton is one of the best bookshops I'm Melbourne, period 👍👍👍👍

Everything about this place is a 10 out of 10. The book prices are affordable and the store keeps a very large range. I was able to find academic books, autobiographies, fiction and the current bestsellers. I will definitely visit this store a lot during my next trip.

I’m always in heaven when I go into a Readings store and no more so in Carlton. Surrounded by great places to eat and the splendid atmosphere of Lygon Street, entering Readings is a hypnotic experience.
All genres are covered and the layout of the store with shelves and different heights and keeping things clean and simple works. I do like the lovely notes that are with some books with comments by staff on books they’ve read it all makes for an enjoyable stroll through the aisles.
At the rear you can find something for your listening pleasure. Plus throughout the store are cards, cups, carry bags and more.
We did have a little competition tonight to find the title of a book that was just meant to catch your eye. See pics and you’ll know what I mean.
Staff are always helpful. Wheelchair friendly. Kid friendly. Parking? It’s Lygon Street but maybe the parking pixies will look kindly upon you.

Saw a book launch here and it is a lovely venue. A nice, long shop which allows wandering around so well. A place to get lost in for hours in the consumption of books. The staff are courteous and lovely and their range was exceptional.

Great poetry selection and not bad for photobooks either. Always feel welcomed by the great staff, who know their stuff!

If you're looking for the children's section, there is a children specifc store further down the street!

It's always a pleasure to watch a movie at this place. Great selection of films plus proximity to a range of fine dining establishments nearby.

Amazing selection of books. So many that I end up taking pics of the ones I'm not getting to remind me to come back after I've read the ones I bought. This place is a treasure.

CARLTON INSTITUTION - A GREAT BOOKSTORE
Readings has survived the wave of bookstore closures that Kindles and online stores brought on, largely because it sells good quality books and offers great service.
It feels a little strange at the moment with everyone taking care to socially distance and not sit on the floor reading as had been the custom.
Wide selection of reading and good information desk.
Readings for Kids is right next door.
People with mobility issues will be fine as it is all on one level with no steps.

It's always a treat to spend time in this store. I rarely walk out without a special purchase; there is always an irresistable find, like this one (see photo). A funny and poignant, thought provoking read and recommend the CD to go with it too. Achingly beautiful music to accompany a really beautifully written, deeply meaningful book.

The staff were amazing. Asked one staff member to help me find the dystopian section, and then they asked if I wanted any book recs and proceeded to give me 4-5 amazing book recs. Super knowledgable and friendly.

Saw so many books that's currently on my wishing list. I had a hard time choosing which one to buy first, and come to difficult decision to buy The Female Eunuch by Germaine Greer first. Will definetely come back again.
