Superb Indian vegan food! Came here tonight with my partner and we were extremely impressed. Fantastic service by friendly staff, authentic flavours and a great vegan selection. Just delicious. Will be back soon and bringing more friends. Highly recommended.

Curry Smuggler have been open for a couple of years and slowly building its audience. We were invited to try the menu and had a selection of curries, naans and starters. My personal favourites were the beef khumbi – which is India’s answer to the beef stroganoff with the inclusion of mushrooms. It was something different, and I’d definitely have it again. The biryani was also flavourful, moist and the meat was tender. The vindaloo brought the heat, which is what its meant to do and the naan was crispy and soft.
As an alternative to mango lassi, the sweet and salty lassi was very refreshing.

I tend to find the interiors of Indian restaurants to be well done, and curry smuggler is no exception. The dark woods and the metals. You can’t really see from the outside that it’s going to look that nice indoors. It’s relatively spacious and the seats are comfortable.

Service was friendly and attentive. The lady knew the menu well, and she was not afraid to make recommendations. All in all, Curry Smugger is great for dine in, but would make a tasty takeaway.

Curry smuggler is certainly no curry in a hurry, it is slow cooked goodness.

Loved the overall food, great atmosphere and friendly staff ! Yesterday I have been to this resturent. I have to tried goat curry and Tawa chicken it was superb.Table service was amazing.The owner /host was quiet friendly.Highly recomended this place ❤

In this melting pot of a city, while I love trying food from all over the world, Id always be on a look out for authentic Indian food. Something that teleports me mentally to my hometown sometimes.

And then I found @currysmugglerfitzroy , This restaurant in Fitzroy is a labour of love from an Indian couple Manraj and Jasmeet.

While you are served here with love with a bright smiles around, you do feel yourself at home looking at the interiors. Brick style wall panels and fascinating artwork, the place oozes sophistication with its bold post-Colonial Punjab ambience.

From street food delights, to spicy curries, tandoor dishes and vegetarian options, there’s a little something for everyone here.

We started with dahi puri (A hugely popular street food in India) – crispy puffed balls filled with potatoes, tomatoes, onion, yoghurt and tamarind sauce. The punch of flavour inside the crunchy shell was a delicious way to start our meal.

A non- vegetarian twist to Samosa their lamb samosa is a great snack offering that’s new on their menu.

While my heart is always stuck for a good lassi, I have had the best Mango lassi of my life here. Its not exaggeration but they put real mango puree to garnish it and its pure love!

The meat used in biryani and curries is melt-in-the-mouth and light breads using stunning Tandoori ovens in the open kitchen are just cooked to perfection . Curries are full of flavour, spicy but not overpowering.

Their Dhaba Daal will remind you of gurudwara(Sikh Temple) food, a mixed curry made of 5 different lentils, isn’t a easy one however they made sure to smuggle the right Indian flavours to you!

If you’re around Fitzroy, Id request you all to ditch everything else and definitely try dig-in for a Indian treat here! ❤

Been there twice and it's been amazing everytime. Very flavourful curries and rice, and the naan is fresh and fluffy.

Since I’m not a big fan of Indian food in general, I have to say the food here is pretty impressive! I ordered the butter chicken and my friend got a tofu curry (and yes the place is also vegan friendly!) I will be back again.

Wonderful service! Great food! Really liked korma chicken and the paneer one.

Second time here, excellent food. Portions look small but very filling.

The spices and flavours are extremely well balanced.

Prices are slightly more expensive but definitely good for groups and couples.

Not recommended for solo travelers however.

We've eaten in and had take away delivered to Richmond and both experiences were outstanding. The butter chicken is super rich and tasty, beautiful soft nan and BYO restaurant which is a bonus. The restaurant is clean and the staff were super friendly. Our new favourite Indian

Went to curry smuggler for dinner on a Saturday evening. The atmosphere was great, crowded but not overly packed. The service was good and staff friendly. The waitress came over and asked if we were ready for mains after our starters, which I think is often rare unless you're in a higher end restaurant.

The food was excellent and served in a good amount of time. It was a good temperature when served and the garlic naan was hot and crisp. The best thing about our meal was the Kashmiri Naan. Neither of us had tasted one before but it was amazing. The saffron flavour lifted each of the curries we had and even alone it was awesome. Food on this trip 5 and atmosphere excellent.

The only feedback my wife had was that the place has amazing decor and features, except for the space around the kitchen area. If that had some sort of cover or screen the place would look very high end.

Great take out place with delicious food. I tried the butter chicken, goat curry, dahl, and a smoke curry and they were all very well packaged and very yummy. Went there 3 times in 2 weeks for takeouts and it was consistently excellent.

Probably the best curry I've ever eaten. I had mutter mushroom and a cheese naan - delicious! Others in our group had lamb Korma and the vegan tofu with spinach - equally yummy😊. Such friendly and helpful hosts too - highly recommend this place!

I'm a local and only twice had takeaway thus far (has just opened) but curry being my national dish (UK) I can strongly recommend!

Try the Dal, delicious. And the goat curry. And the vindaloo too - proper spicy and tasty. Onion bhaji was fantastic, as were the breads. Haven't before really enjoyed Indian food in Oz (apart from when I get invited to a natives house for dinner) but this is damn close.

Super friendly and welcoming staff! Everything that we ordered was fabulous but worth mentioning is the goat curry. Would recommend it to everyone who would like to give a go to indian food. So in love with this place!

This place is a little gem. The service is excellent with good recommendations, every time we go we leave absolutely stuffed and satisfied! The star of the show is the lamb saag, outstanding. Curry Smuggler is now our go-to for authentic (*we're english and this is like our curries back at home) Indian cuisine with a twist and some unusual dishes like the mushrooms for starter that are all excellent.

This was truely one of the best Indian food we have ever had .
Each dish that we ordered kept beating the previous one . Dining here only got better and better each time we ordered an entree and mains afterwards.
Tandoori prawns ( they should say Tandoori king prawns in menu ) were a delight. Daaku Ki tangadi was such an innovative take on drumstick with the most beautiful mughlai sauce .
Tawa goat 🐐 was amazing too.

Staff was smiley a d great too.
What else you could ask for from an evening

Fabulous food. The looks and ambiance gave us a very warm welcome. Now the food- we had three different entrees , they were all just amazing. Something i really loved about their tandoori chicken was the freshness, it was freshly cooked and to the perfect temperature and traditional north indian flavour ( yumm yumm ). My wife and I absolutely loved the tikki chat and paneer tikka was awesome too. In the mains I loved their goat curry as the meat was very tender and juicy and chicken tikka masala was exactly like indian flavour too. Not to forget their friendly staff was just icing on the cake.

Fantastic authentic food, good size serves, fresh ingredients with the right amount of spice. The lamb rogan josh, chicken biryani, garlic nan, raita with fresh cucumber were all superb! Service was excellent, and food arrived quickly. Plus Kingfisher on tap!! We really enjoyed it all and will definitely be back.
