@northeastchinafamily 📍Easily one of the best OG casual cheapeat spots to grab dumplings and chinese cuisine on Flinders Ln🌟 Everything we ordered was under $15 each!! 💯🇨🇳🤌🏻😋 they have one of those never ending menus- so much choice 😄

No frills inside but the best tasting handmade dumplings- chicken and prawn fried dumps were my top pick ($15) alongside chicken prawn chilli wontons ($13). So much yummy filling. Their XLB comes in steamed ($13.50) and fried ($14.50) but sadly not soupy enough.

Salty fish fried rice ($14) was delish!! Also loved the springy and chewy hand made noodles with tomato and egg sauce (only $15!)- Shanghai noods also not bad ($14) This is the food i could eat often & love 🤌🏻🥰

Hands down it gotta be one of my favourite Chinese restaurants in Mebourne 🙌 a fabulous place to get dumpling fix in the CBD, their handmade dumplings are so fresh and generously stuffed with delectable fillings. 🥟
Don’t be fooled by how the building looks on the outside, this gem can easily be missed when you walk pass. The atmosphere is vibrant and cozy, and they got plenty of seats upstairs also.
🥢They offer a wide range of Chinese dishes, from traditional dumplings which they are specialised in, to mouthwatering local delicacies like fried rice, noodles, and soups. 🍜
✅Prices are cheap, great service, portions are huge, and most importantly, delicious and quality food.

⚪Chilli Oil Chicken Prawn Wonton 10pcs $13
must-try 💥flavours were vibrant, generous filling, seasoned well and right amount of chilli oil

40 year old institution with great northern Chinese specialties. The prawn and chive dumplings are a must - try them dipped in the cucumber salad dressing. Stuffed eggplant is also awesome but the real star is the “fish head puff pastry”, a thick and slightly spicy stew of fish, tofu, pork belly, sweet potato noodles and fried bread. It’s chewy, aromatic, warming and filling at only $35 for a heaping bowl.

All dishes we ordered were great!! Very reasonable price. We went there for the sweet fried pork that was so great and satisfying!! I highly recommend egg fried rice👍 (it’s only $11.5). I’d go again soon.

North East China Family is a Melbourne institution for classic no-frills Dongbei-style dumplings and hearty dishes at very affordable prices 💸 Unassumingly tucked away down Flinders Lane, you’ll find this spot bustling with customers looking for a quick cheap eat, a large family dinner, or a casual takeaway 🥡

The food here is top quality, and at very reasonable prices with dumplings coming in around $13-15 per plate (+$1 for fried) 🙌 A must-try are their dumplings which are all handmade - the pan-fried XLB definitely wow-ed us! Packed with soup on the inside, and all encased in an almost impossibly thin and delicate wrapper that didn’t break even when fried! 🥟

If you’re new to Dongbei cuisine I highly recommend giving some of their signature dishes a try - my top pick is their famous ‘Guo Bao Rou’, or fried pork in sweet and sour sauce 🥓 This is not your standard sweet and sour pork - these are thin pork cutlets coated in most uniquely crispy and crunchy potato starch batter 😍 The sauce is lighter and less sweet than the Cantonese version, with a very prominent tangy vinegar flavour that cuts through the oiliness 👏 Trust me, you’ll want to try this!

Another Dongbei classic to try is the ‘Di San Xian’, Fried Potato, Eggplant and Capsicum that are perfectly charred and crispy, tossed in a savory garlicky sticky sauce 🤤 Sounds simple but it’s seriously insanely delicious!!!

Generous portions served fresh. We over ordered for 2 and didn't struggle at all to finish our meals. Very happy with the food although our third over ordered dish came a bit late. Understandable as when they Family restaurant, they really mean it. Big thumbs up.

So excited! From Northeast China myself, at this restaurant, I found home! My daughter who was born here, was equally excited and delighted as me! She said the food was taking her back to laolao (grandma)'s kitchen. It certainly brought back me my childhood memories: a dinner full of warmth, steaming and lingering fragrance. We sensed the feeling as the food critic in the movie Ratatouille. Recommand you to try Shazhucai. A dish people from Northeast often share with almost whole village. Also, the dumplings here are freshly made with care, wonderful! Recommand pickled vegetable dumplings, another special dish from Northeast.

Great food. Salt and pepper tofu is my favourite, vegetarian dumplings are also incredible. Both vegan.

Going back for the first time in several years, I was happy to see inflation hasn't hit their menu as badly as elsewhere. The chicken & prawn dumplings and spring onion pancake were just as I expected - hardly fine dining, but delicious and filling.

Listed (surprisingly) on Liven; Foodollar packages make for a very cheap meal.

Super all round - great menu, fresh, well cooked, affordable, my new favourite city eatery run by some very lovely and hard working folks. 600ml Tsingtao helped make it complete.

Nice, affordably-priced food and good service! The pan fried xiaolongbao could have had more soup but apart from that, it was good. Will definitely come back again
