The Island is a dune habitat, and one of Australia’s most accessible breeding colonies of short tailed shearwaters or mutton-birds. You can also see kangaroos during walks. You can follow the walking track to loop the island which takes approx one hour which also includes some beach walking. 1.2km to the lighthouse or 3.1km for the full loop. For the best light and photography, try to visit the island early in the morning. I love the sand dunes on this island and be careful they are highly unstable.

Great view for an easy track. Despite signs of earning, go for the round trip. It's not a tough walk.

Simply a beautiful place for a leisurely walk if staying in the area for a couple of days. We visited mid week, early October while it was not too busy.

Do the longer walk along the beach if your capable it’s not to hard but it was really rewarding. Lots of beautiful vistas and protected coves. Heartbreaking thing though was the amount of dead birds that I believe are being taken by foxes overnight, they were baiting when I was there

Wonderful place to visit, seculded and beautiful beaches. Part of the walk does not have a formal path and requires solid shoes, if you are going all the way around the Island. If you take the paved path to the lighthouse and back, it is a very easy walk. Would do it again next time I am in Port Fairy.

A beautiful spot by the coast to explore, the water was so clear we even got in with our snorkels. Just from the paths you can stingrays and fish - we 100% want to come back and see more! Close carparking and can fish here too!

Came here with friends on a cloudy-almost rainy-rained a little kind of day. Perfect for a calm walk and to enjoy the sea breeze.

Have been coming here since I was a kid and it's still magic when the lighthouse comes in to view

This place should be renamed to wallaby island

Lovely scenery with some wallabies sightings. And a cool picturesque lighthouse. The whole vibe of the park fits in with the Irishness of Port Fairy. Very atmospheric on the day we visited as it was heavy overcast but beautiful sand and open ocean.

A fabulous easy walk around Griffiths Island Reserve. Worth a trip on a sunny or even a cloudy day.

🚶Easy 1hr walk around the whole island at a leisurely pace including a stop at the lighthouse.

🦀 Rockpools at the lighthouse were great fun to explore.

🎣 Spots along the jetty to fish.

🏎 Ample parking available at the entry to Griffiths Island Reserve.

🌬Windy and cold on our walk - jackets & beanie recommended.

💡Local Guide Tips: Wear comfortable shoes, take a puffy jacket and a beanie, the cold wind hurts the ears.
