Spent the weekend at Bungonia campground and hiked into Bungonia Slot Canyon (Red track). Absolutely spectacular in the canyon and a great challenging hike. Campground is vast with a pretty awesome enclosed camp kitchen which was a delight during the hot weather. Kitchen equipped with gas cooking and sinks. Bathrooms are big with a couple of hot water showers. We loved our weekend stay.

Amazing campgrounds! So clean and the amenities are better than most you'll find, definitely worth spending a little bit of money for top tier campsites and fantastic hiking scenery!

Very well kept restroom. Been a bit of a secret for many years. The facility at Bungonia is excellent. Hot showers, good big wash room for families and wheeled access, well maintained by the local NPWS staff.

Great bushwalking and scenery, especially the Red Trail, but don't do it unless you are up for a very big physical challenge.

This is an amazing place that is a truly Australian national park.

We did the red track and missed the turn to come up the hill, so we spent a lot more time in the canyon than we were supposed to. It was super hot and we got quite dehydrated, so be careful down there.

The campground and facilities were amazing!

absolutely awesome. totally worth the visit. If you are scared of heights I would perhaps hold onto the rail as you can see through the grate right to the bottom of the gorge. It is magnificent though.

We did a quick green track hike on our Syd-Melb drive. This is an amazing park and lots to explore. Definitely will be back for an overnight camping to try other hiking tracks. The ranger was helpful and the park looks well maintained. $8 fee was worth it.

Beautiful park, 2 to 2h30 drive from Sydney, and not too crowded. Amazing scenery and beautiful hikes, particularly the Red Track is challenging but definitely worth it!

We just came here for the drive as it was a wet day.
Sparse, slightly spooky- looking bush land, especially in the mist. The vegetation is thin due to it growing on shale and limestone.
We saw two kangaroos crashing through the trees!
Accessible paved paths to lookouts. Could only imagine the splendour of the view of the gorge as mist and rain prevailed. Nevertheless, still awestruck.
Cavers and canyoners paradise! And more caves are being formed continuously by the elements so if you are around in the next million years or so …
Got a flashback from 20+ years ago about doing the “Red” walking track. Not for the faint of heart(see photos for what you might be up for). It’s mad! Luckily there are some lesser graded tracks to try.
Will be back when the weather is nicer!

This review is about the Red Track (Slot Canyon) and White Track hikes. These hikes are challenging, but they are a great deal of fun! The first km or so is steep, but you will find that the further along you go, the more steep it gets. Once you're in the canyon itself, you MIGHT be greeted by water, which you'll have to wade through (sometimes this area is completely dry). Once you made your way through the initial part of the slot canyon, you'll reach the big boulders, and this is where the REAL fun begins. This hike is potentially risky and requires enough fitness to be able to climb up and over boulders and go up and down steep slopes.

I completed this hike in the late Spring (November) and completed the incline during the late-morning on a high-humidity, 30+ degree day. Probably drank 3L of water and sweated about the same. I would recommend this hike for anyone who is a big kid at heart and wants to explore something a little different. You can definitely do this hike without any specific gear, although, I would STRONGLY recommend decent hiking shoes so you do not lose grip on the trail. I would not do this hike with sneakers.

The best hike I ever been and done. Very challenging (red track). Beautiful scenery, truly nature, less people and worth going. Definitely going back there later this year for different tracks.

Great for a day trip. A few easy walks accessible with family. Harder ones for experienced and well equipped walkers.

A spectacular Gorge with a variety of well considered walking paths to allow worthy exploration. Very accessible and a nice drive to get here too.

We did the Bungonia Gorge Trail and stopped over to Mass and Grill Cave!
This hike in our opinion almost on par with Carnarvon Gorge in central QLD.

Although beautiful and picturesque this hike is not suitable for the faint of heart. Please only attempt the caves if you have appropriate equipments such a head torch etc.

This is a GRADE 5 track that has a very long, steep and slippery slope going into and out of the gorge and the centre is unmarked trail that requires you to scale over, under and between bus size boulders. Please do not attempt this hike unless you are an experienced hiker and do your research first.

There are also some easier hikes and lookouts in the area as well besides this one which are family friendly 😀

I hiked the red trail on New Year’s Day. It wasn’t a super hot day luckily but we did catch rain in the last 30 minutes or so. I would definitely recommend this to a limited amount of people due to the navigation through the Boulder sections would be pretty tough for people that are not generally active. Whilst still possible and would be fun, doing it for a long stretch may prove to be difficult for people. It took us around 4 and a half hours and is definitely one of the best hikes I’ve done close to Sydney. I would definitely recommend if you believe you are physically hit for it.

Best weekend escape area, so close to Sydney, Camp site is fully equipped. A lot of tracks in the area. Red Track is hard, but absolutely stunning view. No fire all the time.
