Authentic Thai Restaurant

Another hidden gem in Port Stephens. Nestled in the back streets of Nelson Bay is this amazing Thai restaurant.

It’s nothing flashy, and the best ones aren’t. Just amazing Thai food, and fantastic service. The most authentic Thai food I have tasted in Australia.

We visited over the Christmas period. We had done our research and we made sure to book a table, as it is super popular with the locals.

Every dish was fresh and full of flavour. The Chicken green curry was not sickly sweet as is done predominantly with most Thai restaurants for a western palate.

The service is efficient and the food comes out quickly. It was crazy busy over Christmas, but it was all under control. Highly recommend!

We were two families who came here for dinner. Service was very friendly throughout, the owner was pleasant and very welcoming.

All the dishes we ordered were very good and as the name suggests very authentic.
I’d especially recommend the crispy pork stir fry with a side of garlic rice.
Highly recommended if you’re in the area

My wife and I had a great night out here.
The food was excellent and very generous. I asked for "hot" (5 out of 1 - 5) and it actually was spicy! That is quite unusual in my experience.
I had the Red Curry with Prawns.
Patricia had GF Chilli Basil Prawns (mild).
We'll be back the next time we come to Fingal Bay.

Authentic Thai exceeded our expectations! As a family of three, we indulged in delicious dishes fit for royalty. The flavors were exquisite, the prices reasonable, and the ambiance added to the experience. The service here was lovely also. We did not have a booking however they were able to fit us in (around 5-5:30 pm). After this the restaurant was quite full (it’s easy to see and taste why!). Highly recommend for a taste of Thailand on Australian shores.

We found this little gem in the back streets of Nelson Bay and we’re so glad we did. Beautiful, fresh, authentic tasting Thai with lovely service from all the staff. The crispy pork belly had a great kick and the Masamam Beef was so tender and also delicious. We will definitely be returning! YUM!

Fantastic food for reasonably cheap, staff are attentive and helpful. Outdoor seating is great with the little lights and good music taste. Highly recommended.

First time visiting Authentic Thai, they were busy but we were able to get a table outside, the over head heating was lovely.
The food was perfect, lots of flavour.
The service from Sophie, Lily, Riley and Andrew was absolutely amazing.
We will definitely be back.

Food was solid. Service took awhile (about 30min probably cos place was packed) but was superb with very well-mannered and spirited kids serving us. Boss was very friendly to share his story of starting the restaurant weeks before covid and even allowed us to order mango sticky rice at 9pm after last order at 8.30pm!

Massaman beef curry was perfectly tender and thoroughly flavourful rich in coconut milk albeit very mildly spicy, perfect curry for rice. Chef’s special crispy pork with broccoli had pork belly that was really crispy and balances really well with the veggies. Crying Tiger grilled beef had a nice spicy tangy flavour albeit could be a bit more tender. Jungle duck (not in pic) was not as good as other reviews say it, texture and taste was there but the dish didn’t really come together like the other dishes.

All in all food tasted authentic and of quality, good with a hearty portion ◡̈

Simply put. Delicious. I cannot recommend this place enough. I highly recommend the green chicken curry while my partner loved their beef Thai chill with helpful servings to satisfy any hungers. This food is made with passion and it shows!. Fun and welcoming atmosphere from the time we were there to our end course we were transported to flavour town in the middle of suburbia. Kudos to the chef!
Please make sure to book online or by phone before you get disappointed as this tiny restaurant can get very busy, but be patient and you will be rewarded by the best Thai service this side of NSW. Forget the rest, this is THE BEST!

Came here as a place for dinner during my 3 day trip in Port Stephens. Will definitely be back next time I return to Port Stephens for another trip. Portions were quite large.

Loved the duck curry the most, full of flavour and lots of duck. I do suggest the soup to have a bit more lemon squeezed in as it was a little too sweet. But the flavour was still very nice.

One of the best Thai restaurants that I've been to in NSW. If you like Asian food, spicy food, creamy curry, and rice, this is the right place for you. Not pricy, perfect for family with kids. Recommend to try the jasmine rice with coconut milk and the massaman curry beef. The papaya salad is a must try too.

One of the best Thai food I have tasted in Australia. Fresh, balanced flavours and authentic. Chicken chilli basil stir fry was amazing. Penang Curry was very flavourful- a tad too sweet though.

Very nice eatery. We always tend to eat in one of the places by the water. But this time, decided to go inside a bit. This was the best food I have had in Port Stephens in a long time. They had separate vegan menu, which was brilliant. Lots of options. The Pad Thai was one of the best I have had. The service is the highlight here, young kids, but masters of customer service. Great experience and highly recommended.

Where do I begin? Hands down one of the best Thai restaurants I have ever been to, the service here is impeccable and the food is even better. Andrew and his daughters, Lily, Jordan and Indie here at Authentic Thai make your meal that extra bit special. Would highly recommend this restaurant for anyone look for a quality dining experience. Service is great, food is immaculate and price is perfect. See you again soon.

Really busy little restaurant at 6.40pm on Thursday evening. Took a while to organise a table. The food was really good! Hit the spot. Service during the meal was attentive and the serving cups for the green tea was a nice touch. Best Tom Yum Soup I had had in a while. This should become your regular Thai place moving forward. Highly recommended!
