Montana on the Macalister Caravan Park & Campground

I just enjoyed an amazing weekend on a group camp at Montana.
The staff were great, facilities clean, and the grounds very well maintained.
They’re very strict with their travel speed and fire policies, which is completely understandable given the environment.
Everyone in our group followed the rules and funnily enough… no one had any issues.

This spot will now be a regular rotation on our weekends away.

Just a couple hours’ drive from Melbourne and you hit this campsite. It's smack in the middle of these awesome mountains and has this chill, almost weed-free grassy area. At night, the sky’s just lit with stars – it's unreal! And the sounds of bugs and birds kinda just zapped away my insomnia. The place? Super clean – like, they really keep up with the trash and everything. And at the checkout, they’ve got these cool icy poles, lollies, marshmallows, plus firewood for sale – same price as back in Melbourne, but hey, you can bring your own too.

Now, Dave – I’m guessing he’s the boss – is like the ultimate Aussie uncle. Tough looking but, man, he’s funny and super nice. He was always buzzing around on his farm gear, keeping the place top-notch. This spot, and a guy like him, totally deserve more than just a five-star rating. I really hope more folks swing by and support them. When I was there, just five families – so peaceful. But, gotta admit, part of me wants to keep this hidden treasure all to myself. Pretty selfish, right? Can’t wait to go back and have all that beauty to myself again!

What a fabulous park. First impressions arriving at Montana showed a park in which the owner/manager took get pride in showcasing. Extremely clean amenities block, an amazing fenced area for dogs to have a run off lead. Fire drums and fire wood available. Lush green lawns throughout the park.
I was surprised not to see either a kids playground or camp kitchen, with picnic tables.
We had an amazing couple of days at Montana and will certainly come back again. Thankyou

ABSOLUTELY AMAZING 🤩 spent 2 nights in paradise! Such a well kept piece of paradise. Very clean amenities, friendly staff and excellent for dogs. Fiona and Dave do an amazing job of keeping this place the beauty that it is ! Most definitely will be back!

McAlister rivers is one of the best rivers in Vic! Wide rocky river great for swimming, fishing, and kayaking 🎣🚣🏻‍♀🏊🏼‍♂ then Montana Campground and their clean amenities makes it GREAT place to stay ⭐
Dave and Fiona were very friendly, and they keep the facilities spotless 👍🏻
📵 Pure relaxation with no phone service, perfect away from all distractions!
I loved falling asleep to the sound of the river! ⛺Site 37 is the best unpowered site for us✨
🔥 Fire pit are readily available (private fire pits are not permitted).
🦮 Pets friendly camping (pet policy applied).
Fair rules of noises and generators makes it peaceful.

Love this place so much that we keep coming back. Dave and Fi trully care about their campers and go out of their way to run a tight ship (even hawling caravans back up to the main road for unsuspecting little 1.6L Hyundai's). Happy campers, ultra clean amenities, wide camp sites, a flowing river, a night sky so clear you can see the haze of the milky way. The deafening sound of nothingness at the top of the hill

This place was amazing, stayed Monday-Friday and was a treat the whole time.
Great fishing, caught 7 fish over 2 early mornings.
The owners were amazing, nice to chat too, gave helpful information and directions and you could tell they had put in a lot of hard work in to this campground.
A lot of wildlife around too, woke up to a lot of kangaroos jumping around the sites and tons of very cute wallabies!

Just had another awesome holiday at this special place together with friends and once again our hosts Dave and Fiona go above and beyond to make our stay memorable and as always the park is manicured to perfection as is the ammenities ( sparkling ). We had a choice of two Food Vans this new year . Big Bears Donuts and Flipping & Frying which was delivered to your site courtesy of Dave and Fiona .( Uber Eats Montana Style ) Thanks to Warren Aka Woz for attending to our every need ! Ice Wood etc Great Park and Great People

On a quick 3 day adventure ride, I rode in to Montana for a nights stay. What an absolute gem of a location. Peaceful in the surrounding nature, beautiful soft green grass to sleep in the tent. Clean amenities block with a good hot shower.
Had a great night with some fellow campers (only others there)
Fiona and Dave are the friendliest, most helpful people that take a real pride in the park. Thanks Guys.
I will certainly be back with the family for a extended stay.

This hidden Gem of a privately run campground is my families favourite place to spend out time, Dave and Fiona do such a fantastic job of maintaining this fantastic property and ammenities they really do need to be commended for their efforts!

Cannot wait to come back!

Awesome place. The kids had a ball. The river is great. It has shallow areas and deep swimming holes. Great place to take the dog as well.

It is a beautiful clean place to camp with great views, hot showers and clean water and fire pit!
Our first time here, and we fell in love, quality time well spent with family, away from distractions and the busyness of life, so we're looking forward to coming back regularly.

We spent a week at the Montana right after NYE, and we fell in love with it! Dave and Fiona are wonderful, always very helpful and beyond kindness, the facilities are immaculate, the grass is worthy of a gulf course, the river is super clean, very accessible, perfect for kids and lot of fun for everyone. No reception or internet, which was great, it really makes you appreciate the beautiful place that it is. The camping ground is very accessible, but a 4WD is needed to go up if you tow, but not to worry, if you don't have it, like us, Dave towed our little pop-up for us with no problem up to the main road. The only thing that I would improve is to make available some sinks to wash dishes, but said that we really loved it and already booked for Christmas 2023!

Absolutely beautiful place to stay. Super friendly Fiona and the grounds men Dave I think was a pleasure to deal with. Just got back and looking forward to the next trip closer to summer so we can take advantage of that river. Really nice amenities and guides to keep it all clean. Love the rule of dogs on leashes avoiding any chaos, so much more relaxing then other places we've been and out dog loved the off leash area great space for your pooch to run around. Completely off grid, looking forward to coming back 😄

This is the best place to escape to. Quiet, extremely clean and most of all great hosts. After a little shower of rain I had difficulty getting out with my avan. No problem said David the host- I will take you out and he did. Fiona is just as helpful. 10plus stars. Do yourself a favour - only down side - couldn’t catch a fish in the Macalister river 🤣🤣

Fiona and Dave are very passionate about what they do and run a very tight ship. The facilities are very clean, the sites spacious and the rules are very clear. For those who want the facilities of a Caravan park, but not the "hassles" with your potential neighbors, I would recommend coming here. The other campers were friendly and very respectful of the fact that people come here for the peace and to enjoy the natural environment. Safe place for the kids to ride their bikes etc as everyone is very conscious of vehicle speeds. I also love the fact that they recycle, I take my recycling home if a Park does not offer this.

We love this place for the family and our Samoyed. Will be back for a third time at Easter. So excited! Such a serene place and always respect anyone that has a live of nice green grass. Thanks Fiona and Dave.

Love it here, Fiona and Dave are awesome, always making sure the guests are taken care of. Immaculate grounds, great staff, leash free area for the pups. Highly recommended.

This is 100% our go-to spot for camping. Amazing grounds, great value. Staff are friendly and always willing to help out to accommodate. Never too busy. Quiet at night. Not enough room to add all the things we love. Did I mention a swimming spot for kids. No place like it. Do yourself a favour and try it for yourself. Thanks Dave and Fiona.
