Sushiko Japanese Restaurant

Ok firstly confession time - I went to town here hence managing to spend $80 on just me - you can eat here for far less but I was only in Port Macquarie one more day and was determined to snag a table after reading the reviews.

Believe the hype - this place delivers genuine Japanese food with skill and integrity. They are only open for 3 hours a day and only seat around 20.

The amazing staff were great helping me navigate around those dishes I didn’t know - and it was gently suggested to me that I reduce a couple of orders when they realised it was just me dining!

The sashimi cuts were perfect in terms of the quality of fish and the way they were presented.

I backed this up with the Kingfish in a soy based broth that had complex layers and was cooked perfectly.

I then had the lunchbox (my compromise to the staff to reduce my order) as it had a selection of other parts of the menu - amazing.

By 1:30pm they were turning people away as there wouldn’t be time to do the food justice which speaks volumes for their care for the food over turnover.

If you have read this far - highly recommended.

Agadashi tofu was top of the line. Sushi and Sashimi as well, authentic with the wasabi inside so if you can’t handle the heat make sure to ask to remove it.
Really great to have the option to enjoy this level of food in a relatively smaller town, very fair value for money as well.

This is proper Japanese Sushi not westernised rubbish like the others. The flavours are amazing and the cuts of fish are the best I have had in some time. The soups are rich, full and you can tell that it is all made on old recipes as the flavour is next level. All plates are generously loaded and the chef is fun with a big smile, truly a worthwhile visit.

We tried the lunch box which came with a nice mix of different dishes and all of them tasted well seasoned and with lots of fresh flavour. We also ordered sushi and sashimi set which came with good mixed selection of sushi and sashimi and it was also very nice. Home made miso soup was brilliant and loved all the dishes.

I just enjoyed a delicious tofu curry! So tasty! Great service and a very welcoming establishment. Thank you!

Delicious lunch, authentic Japanese food with quality raw fish. Must give it a try!

For several years now I’ve bought my lunch at Sushiko at least once or twice a week. Sushiko is Port’s original Japanese restaurant and by far, still the best in town.
There are quite a few sushi bars around town now, but I much prefer Sushiko as the fillings in their sushi rolls are a lot more generous and flavoursome - not just bulked up with rice. The staff are always so welcoming and friendly. I highly recommend Sushiko.

Sushiko is one of the very best Japanese restaurants in Australia we had ever tried. We moved to Port and were glad to have this restaurant around! Sashimi, sushi roll are super fresh and yummy. Strongly recommended! It’s a must go when you are passing by Port Macquarie!

This is the best Japanese food I have had in a very long time.

We ate here several years ago on a trip to Port Macquarie and was pleased to see that it was still operating, although not for dinner any more - presumably COVID related?

We had a fantastic lunch here. The gyoza were amazing, as was the salmon teriyaki set and the chicken teriyaki set.

The restaurant has a successful take away section as well as a dine in section. Service was great and food sensational!

I had super tasty freshly made sushi and miso soup for approx $20. A scrumptious lunch. Highly recommended. They are just doing take-out at the moment

We have tried the other Japanese restaurants but hadn’t been here for a long time. We bought a large selection of sushi for a take away lunch. Mostly $3.50 a roll. All very fresh and delicious, every type was great. Quite busy at lunch and probably best to go early. Very authentic, very delicious and reasonable and next time will eat in to try more dishes! Arigato gozaimus!

This is a fabulous place. A family run restaurant. We go every Friday night and have done for years. The food is fresh...beautifully presented....chef Ko and his wife Naomi always look after you and the staff are always friendly.
