No less than 14 craters make up the Henbury Meteorites Conservation Reserve in Australia's Northern Territory. They are believed to have been formed when a fragmented meteorite hit the Earth's surface. The largest crater (thought to be a coalescence of two smaller craters) is 217 m (733 ft) long, 111 m (366 ft) wide, and 15 m (50 ft) deep.

Amazing camping. Very calm. There is a small box to pay the camping. There is one toilet. There is a table and a small roof. You can do a fire.

This was a pleasant little side trip out to the Henbury Meteorite Craters , the weather was perfect and I was the only person there I was able to have wonder around and take photos. I was amazed to see the actual meteorite from one of the craters in a display at Alice Springs a few days later.

Easy 20 walk from the car park.
It took 4700 years to settle in, surely you can spare an hour.

If you are interested in small objects smashing into the planet at very high speed, this site is well worth a visit. Not spectacular, but it does make you think.

Beside the meteor impacts, if you can stay overnight enjoy the stars and Milky Way.

Nice open campsite if y out are looking for somewhere to stay the night. It’s only a short walk around the craters but still really interesting.
