Malaya

Malaya is in my top 3 Malaysian restaurants in Melbourne, and my top 3 of all the restaurants on Victoria Street. The food is great value, seemingly from the same kitchen as the seafood-focused Pacific House Richmond next door.

They do Malaysian classics like nasi lemak and laksa really well, and I'd never go to Malaya without having the iced teh tarik.

Heads up on the fish head soup though - it's very bony and potentially hard work if you don't know what you're doing. If you're ordering the curry version, the seafood laksa is similar but without the 'fish head' experience.

The service can range in warmth but is usually great and very friendly. It can get busy on weeknights but is generally more chilled and quieter than the restaurants towards the Hoddle St end of Victoria Street. I've never failed to get a table.

Best Malaysian food in Melbourne. The Laksa is perfect, affordable and so filling. I go at least twice a week to eat it

Love this place from the moment they opened. My ultimate fave is their Bah Kut Teh. Highly recommended! Most of the foods in the menu are very good. Price wise it’s not bad! The resto is spacious enough to accommodate all customers.

If your looking for something quick. Something tasty something affordable. Great service then this is the place. A must try is the pork belly and salted fish along with the laksa. Amazing, generous and at a great price. One of my go to places after work when I just can not be bothered going home to cook. A regular here and have never been disappointed. If you are a crab lover highly recommend the chilli crab YUM!!! Enjoy xxxxx

Great taste with great portion, one of the best Malaysian cuisine I had in Melbourne. Staffs were very patient and friendly. Definitely recommend 👍🏼

The restaurant is very clean, the seating is spacious, the food is delicious, and the portions are generous. It's a fantastic place, and I will definitely come here often in the future！

This is my go-to restaurant for Fish Head curry cravings. The kind staff and Chef continue to accommodate my special request and dietary requirement. Ordering via uber eats doesn't reduce the taste & food quality. My fave dish arrives in a large tub, well packed, and still piping hot. The Hainanese chicken is delicious too btw. Give it a try and you be the judge

great service, look at that laksa — so vibrant and tasty and HUUUGE. couldn’t fault the food, it was all amazing and such generous servings. the staff were helpful also when we were being indecisive in ordering — will be back asap

Victoria St has an excellent Malaysian restaurant. The fish head curry noodles is huge and full of fish (not just bones). Get the laksa instead if you want something more familiar.
Golden egg yolk king prawns are bursting with flavour for those who know this salty coating - the fried wonton skins it comes with are crisp and rich too. Mee goreng and char keuy teow are also good.

My friend and I visited there late afternoon and it was one of the few places open and looked clean and welcoming!! The food was well portioned and quickly served as well as being delicious! We enjoyed nasi goreng, calamari and salt and pepper fried lotus root😃

Fantastic new addition to Victoria Street. Welcoming staff and everything was spotless. The food was absolutely delicious and generous serves. Tried the Deep Fried Lotus Root entree, Vegetarian Mee Goreng and Sweet & Sour Pork on Rice - it was all amazing! We will definitely be back to try more of the tasty Malaysian food.

Fantastic Malaysia’n food and it tastes even better with warm hospitality of the 2 beautiful hostess. It is our family favorite.

- Very reasonable pricing.
- Cushioned seats
- Free take away container and reusable plastic bag.

I ordered (and recommend!):
- Malaya wonton noodle (dry).
- Salted fish and chicken fried rice
- Fish head noodle soup
- Malaya spicy chicken.

Laksa was delicious!!! Just as good as you'd get from the Hawkers in Singapore.

Not too sure if it is authentic, but everything served on the table was delish! Highly recommend the prawn with oatmeal, nasi lemak, and their special seafood laksa. Definitely will come back when I crave for Malaysian food.
