such an amazing hidden gem in elsternwick that im upset i haven't been to earlier! tempura japanese cafe has an extensive menu with a surprisingly large amount of vegan options. the staff are all lovely and service was very quick. the food was incredible, their mock chicken is some of the best myself and my partner have ever had. the serving sizes are also really big, especially given the low prices of each meal. i will definitely be coming back, and i urge everyone in the area to try this place, vegan or not!

Love love love. Reasonably priced, fresh tasty food. And huge serves. The tofu don could easily do me for two meals. A great vegan range without having to take ingredients out (or pay extra). Staff are friendly and really want to make sure you enjoyed your meal. If you're looking for a spacious restaurant to eat in, this may not be for you, but it is called a cafe after all. I rated the atmosphere highly not because of the space itself, but because it is a little place full of joy. And judging by the huge number of deliveries going out the door, people around the neighbourhood rate Tempura Japanese Cafe top shelf too. Treat yourself and try it.

Small simple cafe with really enjoyable flavourful foods. Really awesome and well prepared. The place is run by a family and they take good care of the food and their customers. We sat in. There are three tables and bar eating by the window with some more tables outside. I had a Katsu Bento Box which was delicious. The place isn't accessible. It does have a restroom.

Quick and friendly service. I have eaten at many Japanese/Asian restaurants but their food it truly the best. Affordable as well and good quality food.

This restaurant has kept me fed through many work shifts and at home through uber eats. Portion sizes are amazing, food is tasty and it's always quick. Honestly my favourite place to eat 💖

Amazing Vegan food. Tried for the first time and loved avocado sushi, vegetable dumplings, vegetable Tempura.
Friendly staff, reasonable price and quick service.
I recommend this place for people looking for more options in vegetarian/vegan dish.

Delicious Japanese cafe with a huge range of dishes and many vegetarian and vegan options. My boyfriend and I grab dinner here on a regular basis. Our favourites are agedashi tofu and the vegetable tempura.

We have ordered from this place for over 2+ years and they never disappoint! The food is always hot, delicious and filling. The vegan options are amazing, with plenty of options. Would highly recommend trying tempura either take away or dine in, and the team are always lovely.

This is my go-to Japanese place. They have an extensive vegan menu and everything I’ve tried is 10/10 delicious; the agadashi tofu in particular is phenomenal (who knew tofu could be such a star).
The prices are really reasonable and the staff are lovely too.

I’ve come here a couple times but my partner and I have come here for our second time together. Wonderful, bright and happy service as always and great vegan options for us as per always. One of my faves for inclusive Japanese food, would highly recommend.

EDIT after some time and especially after buying several sushi rolls in the biggest shopping mall in Mel for almost double the price, much smaller that my child didn't want to eat after the first bite,I came back here and they made us fresh,huge and tasty sushi rolls. Kid ate them all. What can I say, other than I m happy to be close by!

Tempura Japanese Cafe is my all time favourite place to eat in Melbourne. I drive an hour, sometimes more just to get the Vegan Teriyaki Chicken. The service is great, always welcomed with a friendly face. Thank you kindly 🧡

Very good quality fresh

Astonishingly yummy vegan (and meat) options! The staff are all so sweet, they were excited to welcome me for the first time dining in instead of uber eats, and even though they were hugely busy with online orders, our huge order for 3 people was very quick (like less than 10 mins) and all delicious and perfect!
The vegan katsu curry is to die for, and the nuggets are so good 👍
