Castlemaine Diggings National Heritage Park

It difficult to imagine the living and working conditions of our early miners. I mean, we drive straight up to a site, grab the detector and get into it. They had so much more hard labour. I wonder if we will find gold one day LOL.

We liked this park for a good walk and a history lessons. It is pretty, but at the same time sad how much the landscape has been changed by gold mining. It would have been much prettier in the past.

I hate to give a review when I never actually got there but I feel that I must say something. The approach to this place was over a deteriorating, longish gravel road. We had just bought a new car and didn't want scratches over it from overhanging shrubbery. When we deemed the road to be getting worse, we turned around and went back, even with only just over 2km to go. It just didn't seem worth it.
Yes, the car was filthy with dust. Yes, I should expect that kind of thing but I just thought that I would tell people of my experiences anyway. Please feel free to post your comments in exact contradiction, if you so desire. I am happy to be corrected.
