Shanghainese fare, well executed with intense flavors, especially the chinese pepper ma la dishes.
Ps There is zero thirst factor ie don't think they add any MSG or if any minimal.
Gets quite busy on weekends and can be short staffed sometimes.
Everything on the menu is a must try!

Quick and easy place for a meal. The food was served so quickly, it was delicious. I dare say that it was the best
cold chicken meal I had in australia, filled with nutty, spicy flavours. Also, i commend the owner for using beautiful plates and bowls. The staff was kind and friendly.

Omg, the food comes with the big portions. And the taste was so good, if you like Asian food, you must come here and try!

I dream of this food. The lamb ribs were mind blowing, the mopa tofu was amazing. Highly recommended if you want approachable and delicious Chinese good.

🍆🥔🫑My favourite dish was the Fried Eggplant, Potato and Capsicum - the sauce was so tasty and the vegetables were cooked to perfection.

🍗🧂🍳 If you are a fan of salted egg flavoured food, you should go for the Chicken Wings with Salted Egg Yolk. The salted egg flavour was quite strong, which I liked.

🦆🥘🦆 The Shanghai Style Stewed Duck was not bad. The duck meat was thick and covered in a beautiful, sweet sauce. The duck meat could've been slightly softer, but overall still a great dish.

◻◻⚫ I loved the Silk Tofu with Century Egg. It was refreshing and light on the palate, so it really helped to balance out the strong flavours of the other dishes we ordered.

🥟🥟🍚 The Steamed Sticky Rice Dim Sum was just okay. Not a favourite.

🍚🍜🍚 For our carbs, we ordered Dry Noodles with Scallions and just some basic Steamed Rice. The noodles were so yummy and had a lovely texture!!! The rice was packed into the bowl beautifully - it was heaped and rounded at the top perfectly. 🤌🏻👌🏼

The restaurant had a nice ambiance. Its interior design was modern but still had a traditional feel to it.

Enjoyed our time at Modu for date night - extensive menu with 100 dishes at least. Delicious food, everything was so tasty but my favourite was the century egg with tofu, was craving it! Green beans with pork mince and the signature braised pork were also so tasty! Love the pippies with a bit of spice too. Great and attentive service, food came out quickly after ordering via app

Had a wonderful meal at Modu last weekend. A Chinese fix was just what I was after and this restaurant really impressed from the outside and in with modern styling and plenty of booths and larger tables to accommodate the tribe.

You ordered by QR to the app and food came out really fast although not necessarily in the order you would expect them to. Serves were generous and flavoursome. Kellies favourite from what we ordered was the Sichuan styled noodle salad, which, as the name suggests was quite spicy (but manageable). She also really liked the Shanghai style fried fish with sticky sauce.

I went for old favourites and enjoyed the salted egg yolk prawns and (dare I confess) sweet and sour pork.

All up a really nice experience with relaxed mood and friendly attentive staff.

It’s a hidden gem on Clayton busy street. The ambience is so different from other Chinese restaurants, it’s calming and relaxing like it’s in a historic town. The food is also amazing, service is good. Can’t wait to try other food, will definitely come back.

I was so excited dine in at Modu in Clayton. Being locals, we've previously been here for dumplings and we were so impressed with the taste and quality.

This time we ordered:
Stir-fried banana prawns with black pepper sauce
Sweet and sour pork with pineapple
Shanghai fried noodles
Fried milky dough
Peach ice tea
Lemon ice tea

The banana prawns were super tasty, it was packed with flavours. Try dipping the mantou (milky dough) into the black pepper sauce 👌👌

Sweet and sour pork is my hubby's favourite. Everytime we're at a chinese restaurant, it's his must order dish. He loved it, he almost finished the entire plate himself.

Shanghai fried noodles is my absolute favourite noodle dish to order. The noodles were bouncey and cooked perfectly. Flavours on point 👍

If you were wondering why some of the dishes were cut off in my first photo, it's because the plates & servings are huge here 😂 definitely value for money.

We had the noodles for lunch on Saturday, served on lovely crockery in a modern, sleek and clean restaurant. I would like to try the rest of the menu next time.

One of the best traditional Chinese in Melbourne with a cool vibe in the restaurant and proper 'spice' levels in their spice dishes...they don't turn down the volume which is how it should be when you want proper szechen or spicy Chinese. Highly recommend.

The greatest Chinese food in Australia I’ve ever had. Reasonable prices and good service. Just be careful it looks like closed because of the door.
