Harvest Home Avenel

We have been going to Harvest Home for 25 years. It is a stunning unique old homestead restuarant/pub. The gardens and outdoor dining areas are immaculate and the best I have seen in any regional venue. Definitely worth the 1 hour 15 min. trip from Melbourne for lunch or dinner but even better if you stay in the beautifully appointed Victorian hotel rooms and make a the most of your stay. Highly recommended. Very relaxing.

Enter the cafe via the side entrance and be transported into the secret garden. The most stunning backdrop to a delicious and abundant breakfast. Linen tablecloths and napkins top off the classy experience. The coffee was great and the meal was tasty. Service was friendly and attentive. Well worth a visit! Loved the cute little town of Avenel too. I could not rate the rooms as I didn’t stay here but the restaurant/cafe was a 5 star for me!

My daughter and I took a road trip specifically to stay at the Harvest Home in Avenel. We stayed for three delightful nights and thoroughly enjoyed our time. I picked this hotel for the quality of the menu, the gorgeous renovation of the building and the crystalline pool and we enjoyed some amazing breakfasts, delicious dinners and relaxing snacks in the gardens. Highly recommend. And a great location to visit local wineries!

This is a perfect historic pub getaway.

The interiors are gorgeous, the suites charming with an attention to detail, and the gardens / balcony are lovely enough to not want to leave. Compliments to the chef - we ate the chicken supreme, pork belly & barramundi for dinner and all sensational, at a very reasonable price.

Overall there is a care & authenticity that really shines through in how this beautiful venue is operated. I was impressed.

A beautiful venue with amazing food. I can’t fault this venue apart from the recent visit a couple of weekends ago where we sat outside for lunch and weren’t sure where to order and we had to navigate ourselves around.

Easily the best food we have had in a dining experience. From entree to dessert it was mouthwatering. Our room and ensuite was beautiful. Great attention to detail. All through our stay we were taken care of with everything we needed. We will definitely stay again.

Wonderful experience. The hospitality from Samantha was exceptional. Felt like part of the family. Beautiful old hotel lovingly restored to old world charm and warmth. Stunning gardens perfect for special occasions which is clearly what they do here. We just stayed to be near heathcote but it's a standalone destination. Thank you for having us. Perfect Country Weekender

We escaped Melbourne for a two night weekender, staying in the room “Farmhouse”.

Historic and lovingly renovated, Harvest Home oozes charm and aims high with genuine, welcoming hospitality.

Our room was very comfortable, (we both had the best sleeps in months)! The dining room a gorgeous place to leisurely eat and chat. The balcony perfect to take in the view, trains and have a couple of wines.

We left on Sunday after another hearty breakfast feeling like we’d had a week long holiday.

Highly recommend.

TIP: If heading back to Melbourne, don’t rush. Take a long way through the country. Stunning drive home on a perfect day via Seymour, Whiteheads Creek, Highlands, Yea, Flowerdale.

Our second weekend away at this comfy home away from home. Rooms take you back in time, with a modern twist. You can soak in the tub, enjoy a cup of tea in your room or look out to the roses in the garden area. Food is amazing, Modern Australian; the wine and cocktail range on point. Breakfast is included if you stay. Will be back!

Fantastic. If you are looking for a retreat with great food, wine and atmosphere this is a great bets. We didn’t stay here as it was fully booked but came for several meals and were very happy with each one. Both the gardens and the property are beautiful and the staff are excellent.

What a wonderful place to stay, the Home itself was so nice and old world. The gardens were magnificent with so many secluded nooks and areas to to relax, even by the pool.

The staff were just so friendly and couldn't help enough but were also unobtrusive so if you want a quite time together this is the perfect place.

The trains at night gave it a wistful ambience.

My partner and I stayed here and absolutely loved it. Incredible atmosphere, food and drinks. We'll be locking this in for our wedding venue - it's a very special place. Thanks to Sam for getting us a room last minute and to Charles who welcomed us and gave some great local insights.

Ordered the eye fillet medium rare, the meal came out just the way we like. We sat outside as the weather was great. Service from the staff was great. Only small negative was the dust from traffic on the side street, I would probably try for a table further away from side street if I was dining outside again.

Drove up from Melbourne to have lunch with family and it was well worth the trip! The food was delicious, the staff was really friendly and the building/decor was just gorgeous! Will definitely be coming back again.

Side note: in regards to a recent one star review - I was one of the customers that witnessed this interaction. The owner couldn't have been more friendly and polite. It was disgusting to see the way these customers spoke and such a strange overreaction to a gentle request for the kids to move their toys away from what looked like a very expensive crystal cabinet. We also had a child with our group and had no issues monitoring her around the beautiful decor, it's just basic decency and respect for someone else's property. The owner was clearly rattled by the interaction which was such a shame because she was a lovely woman. I'm sorry you and your staff have to put up with that kind of behaviour!
