Southern Aurora Memorial Gardens

Beautiful place built by the town to commemorate The Southern Aurora and the accident that occurred here.

Excellent display and Memorial of the Southern Aurora rail collision. Well kept grounds, peaceful space and multiple dioramas of the history, tragedy and triumph.

Loved the detailed information, incredible mural, 9 lemon scented gums and singular words that encapsulated the feeling of the day. An incredible memorial to all that were involved and those that list their lives.

Take the time to wander around this memorial to the 1969 train crash that claimed 9 lives. Historical information boards not only remember those killed and injured, but also pay tribute to everyone involved in the rescue operation, and reflect upon railway operations through Violet Town on the NE line between Melbourne and Albury. The old railway carriage displayed is similar to some of the sleeper carriages that came to grief on that fateful morning. The gardens are an important educational and historical monument that is worth diverting from the highway to see.

Nice park. There was an old train carriage there. There was no one here, even though it's a historical country town.

What a great effort to make a peaceful memorial along with a place for other travellers to rest and revive before moving on
