The Austral Cafe And Bakery

It's so wonderful to find an original diner that serves milkshakes I remember from my childhood, vanilla slices, and other traditional cakes and slices, a variety of pies and freshly made sandwiches, wraps and Turkish bread. The decor consists of blue booths with yellow tables, and old photos of Murwillumbah on the walls. A great option for a fulfilling meal that won't disappoint.

It's old school; so clean; large inside with aircon; food is great and lovely staff.
It's a must visit while visiting the town.

For a throw back you can’t go past Austral. They make a great chai latte and their selection of cakes and pastries is amazing. The pie and chips looked fantastic. Retro Foodie Heaven

This is an old-style cafe diner with a genuine retro vibe. We ordered 2 salad sandwiches and they were terrific. They were made fresh to order and so large that we could barely wrap our mouths around them!!

Wonderful cafe in the heart of Murwillinbah established in 1919! We enjoyed a classic lunch with a lovely old fashioned malted milk share! The original fit out still graces the cafe

This place is an institution in M'bah It's an old-fashioned cafe and bakery and that's a magic combination. Great service, good prices and love the blue vinyl soft seats with yellow laminex tables. They have just about every milk bar item you can think of but I had a custard tart and a caramel malted (yes they even have malt) that was served with the classic glass and the stainless steel container. Great old photos of M'bah (flood, fire but no famine). And there is a new clock! Classic cafe.

Absolutely loved our lunch here. Loads of choice and great value. Milkshakes are amazing, you must have one! Old style diner experience.

If you haven't been here you've missed out on the best Cafe in Murwillumbah, we had lunch and it was delicious the milkshakes were sublime and they were thick chocolate and ice cold, the refill came the old fashioned way in a aluminium cup, I highly recommend the Austral Cafe is fantastic.

Love this place. The history on the walls is amazing. Coffee was fabulous, carrot cake muffin was delicious. Price point great. Staff lovely. Clean, quirky, and up for sale if anyone is looking for a business to buy.

This is a nice Cafe. Food sizes are good, cakes an treats are massive in the windows. There is no pressure to move you along as there is quite a lot of seating inside. Recommended for sure.

Fabulous down to earth country town cafe with generous sandwiches and good coffee. Not expensive

Ordered a banana smoothie and a Caesar chicken salad. Very very good both quality and quantity. Prompt friendly service and nice relaxed atmosphere. A little on the expensive side though.

Staff are great, and the portion sizes are amazing. Food quality is excellent.

We had two big breakfasts and a plate of chips and gravy! Delicious, hearty food and great size servings! Will be here every time I’m down from Brissy!
