Great walk down to the viewing platform. First section is pretty smooth and slightly down hill. Second half is quite steep with lots of steps and grown over in areas. Rewarded with a beautiful view of the falls at the bottom. Takes about 50 mins each way to walk.

WALK ON THE WILD SIDE, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed through old growth forest and mixed track conditions. One of the tallest waterfalls in the Great Otway National Park (not to be confused with the smaller, slender ERSKINE FALLS 12km from Lorne). The track is unfortunately not prioritised for any maintenance (the entire track and forest was almost lost to logging in 2000-2001 if not for an epic battle between locals, conservationists and the government!, and can be quite gluggy and unwelcoming in cooler/wetter times, and quite irksome with trackside stinging nettles and occasionally, leeches (uncommon in summer). There are no tracks beyond the constructed lookout balcony.

The lookout view across to the main fall of SABINE FALLS is a good introduction to the diversity and concentation of forest species in one of the wettest and coldest parts of the Otways: in the winter time, it can be wet and very cold for days on end, nourishing the forest and providing for a spectacle of flowing water that finishes its vertical travel in the meandering Smythe Creek, which in turn exits inconspicuously to the sea under the Great Ocean Road.

As you gaze across the valley, you may see the slender, silent ribbon of water that is the main 120 metre fall of SABINE FALLS. Nobody would guess that above this, hidden from view, is a bewitchingly beautiful small waterfall -- little-known, seldom seen UPPER SABINE FALLS, cascading playfully through high verdant rainforest and finally into a rocky, steep-sided grotto. Emboldened, the ribbon of water weaves among ancient moss-encrusted boulders, appearing suddenly at the lip of a clifftop rock for an heroic leap into the dizzying void to become the better known SABINE FALLS -- what you see from the lookout across the valley. Sadly, Upper Sabine Falls -- a seriously remote bushwalk requiring navigation and route-finding skills through untracked rainforest, became inaccessible in 2010 after a major landslide chocked the grotto and all but obliterated the falls.

Park here for walk to Sibine Falls. Do NOT drive past and then turn right and try and drive down the track (as instructed to by Google!) to the falls as you'll get stuck even in a 4X4!

Beautiful walk through the forest for an awesome view at the end. I would rate this as a moderate to difficult walk, very steep in places but we'll worth it.

This is a magnificent walk through pristine old growth forest. The trail, on the other hand is a challenge. Steep in many sections, 500 steps along the way. Some of the track is slippery and muddy. And the two creek crossings can be dangerous because of loose slippery boulders. But, hey! the scenery more than makes up for it. If you're old like me, allow 3 hours or more.

Beautiful scenery, bit narrow and slippery on a wet day. Many places to rest and take in the beauty. Plenty of birdlife. Watch out for the soft edges.

Beautiful spot, however track is not well maintained. Severe overgrowth in lower sections. Extreme overgrowth of stinging nettle made it impossible to continue without wearing long pants.
Also expect leeches!
Still a beautiful walk for the most part.

Watch out for the leaches
