This is one of our favourite places to bring family or friends who enjoy Indian food & chai. Such a peaceful little spot they’ve created!

A new cafe has emerged on the western side of Warrigal Rd in Oakleigh, but do not be intimidated by the odd directions from Google maps, this place is absolutely worth the visit! A sparse interior belies the rejuvenating sense of calm - especially in the back room overlooking gorgeous courtyard garden which makes you feel like you're in on a secret and could step through the brick wall into some charming forest. The menu is mostly sweet treats to accompany the fantastic chai, but the savoury option is an unmissable treat (ask for vegan if you need dairy free). At roughly $10 per person you can have a comforting pick-me-up of delicious spiced potato toastie (with plenty of fresh herbs and mild chilli) crisped to perfection AND a truly delicious masala chai that certainly beats any other 'chai latte' in the area, as the proprietor makes it the traditional way rather than from western powdered imitations. Unless you're celiac or keto, don't skip the sandwich.

I'm raving because it's such an unexpected treat to find a hidden gem and good affordable vegan option in the lovely locale of Oakleigh. Can't wait to return, and will definitely sit in the garden when the weather warms up!

Beautiful experience. Quiet place, tasty hot chocolate and sandwiches. Their Indian style tea is a must try. They also had Jain options. Home like treatment and friendly staff. We were taken care nicely. I strongly recommend this place.

Lovely little nook. The uncrowded space, soothing music, caring service with simple yet beautifully prepared food takes one back to many a memory lane.

The Masala Chai is certainly a stand out! This is a lovely spot to have an unhurried catch up with old mates, to share many a laugh and of course, lots of Chai!

Tip: The kachoris are great but run out quickly. So come in early if you want to try them!

The backside place of the Cafe was really very appealing. The backside of the cafe was very natural and was giving an Indian feel. Lots of plants, grass and perfect positions of tables and chairs. The customer service is outstanding. We talked with the owner of the Cafe as well, such a decent guy and polite man. He made the best chai that we could have ever had in Melbourne and it was homely. The sandwich that I ordered seemed kind of my mother's touch, in her absence. Based on their hard work and sincerity, many people should visit the place and have something. We would totally recommend the place 👌.

First time we found a place serving North Indian breakfast.
Nice cozy place, a great tasting sandwich, poha and sabu dana khichdi.
And a happy ginger tea ended the visit with nice convo with honest owner.
Suggestion- dont make poha tooo hot when serve; it dries up.
See ya again.

Masala Chai cafe feels a bit like home. Familiar, home like toastie and the best loose leaf chai you'll get. Its a cozy place with a cute backyard and a ginormous lemon tree. The owner Mitu Bhaiya and his daughter are ever smiling. The cafe does not boast of a huge menu, but whatever they serve is delish. A great place for vegans (thankfully no smashed avo!).

The Chai, the space and the amazing human behind it... We came here thanks to the reviews and I'm so grateful we did. We'll be coming back for chai and those amazing potato sandwiches.

Thank you so much Mitu!
