Our 2WD SUV was able to make the rough journey to here. The road was dry and there was not many potholes. Trek from the parking place to glow worm tunnel is easy. There is a area with stairs and a small bridge.
Tunnel entry is slippery as water flowing to the tunnel.

Glow worm tunnel was something out of this world. It’s a must visit

During this wet weather, the entrance to the tunnel is flooded with ankle deep water. Wear shoes you don't mind getting very wet!
Definitely worth the drive in on the horrible road! 😆 The pot holes are as everyone says, terrible & very slow going so allow plenty of time for the drive. Quite a few deep washout ruts, high clearance 4WD needed.

Hundreds of glow worms in the tunnel, absolutely stunning display. Once inside the tunnel, you can walk along the side out of the water & deep inside the tunnel to get the best glow.

Long drop toilet in the carpark.
2km return, easy walk with a few stairs & rocky areas.

Nature's wonder must be on everyone's things to do. Some construction work is on at the moment and can be a little disappointing, but it a wonderful place to visit. A carry food and water with you. Wear proper tracking shoes and carry light with you too. Advantage to carry some GPS as mobile phones don't work. Parking spots are limited and can be busy too. Plan and leave early from home. Must visit.

The road leading to the tunnel was atrocious, 40ish km of pothole infested logging track that should have been marked 4WD (or minimum SUV, felt sorry for the ‘P’ platers negotiating in there Mazda 3, poor buggers) followed by 10km of spectacular national park track.
As for the tunnel, it was equally spectacular, photos on an iPhone cannot do it justice. If you go there, go late or early and miss the crowds as they always make noise and scare the glow worms; we saw the best glow worm scene at 4:30pm when no one was around (the whole roof a glow, like the sky full of stars, unfortunately could not capture it in a pic). There was awesome hiking if you continued through the tunnel, unfortunately we ran out of time.

Spectacular view of glow worms, a must-visit. Free access 24*365.

Do not use a flashlight including a mobile phone flashlight! A flashlight will do NOTHING helping you to see the glow. It will only do the opposite, as artificial light will inhibit their glow. Please also stay quiet as possible since noise affects the glow too.

There's a 2km walk from the carpark, grade easy but no wheelchair access due to some stairs crossing a creek.

There's about 1 hour of drive from the main road. The driveway is not well maintained. It's muddy, dusty and bumpy. I would avoid driving a 2WD on a wet day.

Really want a good reliable vehicle to get here. We have a Jeep and it was raining and we needed the 4wd to get there and was totally covered in mud by the time we got back. Its a nice thing to do and enjoy a little bushwalk, a walk through a cave which ends in a little rainforest area and head back. Bring a torch to get through the tunnel and be sure to stop and turn it off and see the glow worms. There's no food or anything there so bring everything you require with you and of course take all your rubbish back with you too. There's a pit toilet where you park your cars only. Good way to spend about half a day (we live in blue mtns so full day counting driving from Sydney). We took our kids in their 20s and they loved it, younger kids will too as well as anyone who enjoys a little bush adventure. There's lookouts and places on the way where you can stop but it's a bit of a drive once in lithgow to the caves around an hour each way.

Incredible walk, keep your lights off in the middle of the tunnel for best effect, and overall enjoy the surrounding scenery on the walk out the bottom end, it really can't be beaten.

Good experience, difficulty getting there as the instructions online weren't very clear and there's no signal out there. The trail itself is an easy walk to the tunnel, however I wouldn't recommend bringing children under 12 here unless they know how to be quiet, as noise makes the worms not glow. Also, watch out for all the pot holes on the way there, I suggest a high enough SUV/4WD.. you can make it in a sedan or hatch but you'll be driving 30 the whole way, and if it's raining you'll get your car stuck. Also make sure to go to the toilet beforehand as the facilities there are primitive. Good experience but I think it's more about the adventure of getting there!

The road to get there was BAD!!! We have a SUV but we had to drive extremely slowly to avoid the thousands of big wholes on the road. So be prepared. Anyway, once you do get there, the park is well maintained and it's a beautiful easy walk to the tunnel. And once you get into the tunnel, well, you forget about everything else out there. It's a magical experience. Totally worth it! Bring a torch and please be quiet.

The walk is beautiful and took about an hour in total, I would recommend this to everyone. When you're deep in the tunnel and turn off the torch you do see the glow worms, it's really pretty and well worth it.

Such a beautiful day out. Don't forget a torch and some good shoes.
It's a long drive from Lithgow through the national park buy worth the adventure. The track is an easy walk. We had 2 elderly guests that made it there and back but they were pretty worn out afterwards.
It costs nothing and was a lovely excursion for my family.

Beautiful nature's at its finest. The drive was adventurous plenty of rough roads, can be done by a 2wd SUV I'll recommend. You need a good extra ground clearance battling the unsealed road potholes are everywhere. Take extra care on some tunnel and narrow roads. But once you reach the Glow Worms Tunnel it's awesome.

This bush walk is beautiful, as you traverse through bush to the tunnel which is one of the best places I've been to see glowworm before, with thousands on the celling and walls. The tunnel itself is about 300m, with maybe half of it in the middle the most dense spot to see glowworms.

Unfortunately our experience was ruined by other inconsiderate people who aren't aware that exposure to light can kill the glow-worms.

We saw some people directly shine torches on the ceiling space and on the glow worms.

How do you expect to see glow-worms with a torch?? What do you think "glow" means??

If you manage to find time to yourself and are quiet, it is truly a sight to behold.

We managed to navigate through perfectly fine without a torch.

Great day out. Road out has a few pot holes but 2wd can do it slowly and its easy for any 4wd, takes about an hour to get from Lithgow to the car park. Nice gentle walk in beautiful scenery. Tunnel entrance is rocky and there is a stream running through the tunnel which all adds to the adventure. Plenty of glow worms once you are a 100 Meters in.

Unique experience. It really worths seeing, but be prepared for driving on a very harsh road abounded with deep holes. The road takes more than one hour. Do not be frightened, enter the cave and enjoy the seen.

A light, beautiful, leafy and quiet track with a creek and a beautiful bridge, which ends with an amazing tunnel in that you could see the glow worms above your head like stars.
I strongly recommend this fabulous walking track.
