Turned up at 10.30pm without our caravan after some mechanical issues and was delighted to see the pub open and a room available. The welcome was super friendly, we sat outside and enjoyed a drink with the locals after a long day. Our room was spotlessly clean, the shower was hot, next time we’ll make it in time for dinner! Oh, and love hearing the trains rolling by. The Progress Assoc should be congratulated, the town has made big leaps forward in the last 10 years.

Great place to visit, have a beer and chat with John before enjoying a great Sunday night pizza with friends. Always a great atmosphere and sitting outside under the heated verandas watching the sunset is priceless.

Outback, what an experience. Good Food on short notice. Those flies called Mossies? We got a video of an emu crossing in front of our car on that road up to the paved road to Coober Pedy. We loved Australia and the people, trees, birds and animals. What a wonderful place.

Cracker of a spot to refuel both the car and the belly. Delicious steak burger with beer hits the spot. Worth stopping in for a break.

A great place if you're looking for a slightly different outback experience. If you're willing to make the 40km give or take detour off the Stuart Hwy it will be worth it. The Pub is the place to have a meal (the only place) it has a good menu at reasonable prices and the dining experience is a little different in that you'll get to meet and talk to your fellow travellers and you can Join John (one of the owners) outside for a chat around the fire. The accommodation rooms are a little aged but well equipped and clean and there is a shared bathroom. If you're after something a little different I would highly recommend a night staying at the Kingoonya pub.

We stayed in one of the rooms attached to the pub and we were not disappointed. The room was neat and comfortable. The meals were huge and delicious. Cold beers. The locals really made the stay though, with chats and guitar by the fire, they are salt of the earth people. This place is well worth the detour!

Stopped here for a drink on our way through to the Gawler Ranges. Was great to find an open place at lunch time in Feb out here :) The couple at the bar were super friendly and happy to chat about the area and recommendations of where to go. Will definitely come back if we are in the area. Next to the pub is 24h fuel too.

Definitely worth the 40 km trip on dirt road out from highway. Dirt road wasn't that bad at all. What a great little spot ! Host Leesa was great 👍 Powered site $25 Unpowered $15. No water but we didn't need it. Showers and toilets available for use. Could have a campfire in the pit. Great dinky little pub to have a cold one and great feed. Very friendly locals. Can't wait to go back and see how Leesa's renovations of the ol schoolhouse look.

Old school country pub with basic rooms, and awesome hospitality and meals. Views across the plains at sunset whilst drinking a beer or three is a highlight.

Love this pub. Unique, friendly and steeped in history this really is a great, genuine, outback experience. The food is delicious and plentiful and a good selection of beverages ice cold. The rooms are neat and comfortable alternatively there is a small caravan park or free camp within walking distance.

A great outback pub with wonderful owners & staff.
Well worth a couple of days here enjoying the relaxed atmosphere and meeting locals and travellers around the campfire at night after a great meal.
We had 5 days here helping John & Julie with some renovations with Frontier Services Outback Links.

If you blink you’ll
Miss it…… and that’ll be one of the biggest shames….
“Magic in the outback” is defined with a stop at Kingoonya Pub and hotel in the SA our back.

They hosted our stop while on the very worthwhile ShitBox rally and we couldn’t be happier.

Food was on point and staff were awesome

Most pleasant wrong turn experience to date! Lucky enough to be on Friday night, with all the local drinking down at the hotel/pub. If you want the real experience it’s this little town with population 11 but say population 13, to add you straight into the community. It’s the raw side of the country so if you are chasing the insta pics this is not your stop off, but if you are a real person and want an unforgettable experience, make this your next stop. I’m sure they will have a laugh about this review over the next drinks. Till next time

Nothing but praise for the Kingooya pub. They catered for around 400 people with us on the Shitbox Rally. They could not have been more helpful. I would be back in a heartbeat. Thanks too to the local groups who fed us so well. Cold beers went down very nicely.

Was very rewarding pulling up to this little local pub, they had the fire going and a bunch of people having a yarn around it. Best of all the beers were ice cold! A must do stop in that’s for sure.

Love the sole of this place, definitely my favourite bush pub. They are cheap, excellent food and service, beers are cold, accommodation is dated but clean and well looked after, the owners and locals are legends. Will be coming back here over and over for years to come.

A great little town that has seen time pass it by. Still eking out a meagre existence with a few hardy locals. Has an annual Damper cook off and is on the way to several inland outback 4x4 destinations.. Worth a visit.
