Nice Malaysian restaurant with many seatings.
Serving size could be more generous but food quality was good.
Got the mee goreng, noodles were al dente to our liking.
We enjoyed the flavorful spiced fried chicken that came with the nasi lemak.
Char kway teow had a burnt flavor but different from the wok hei flavor though.
Overall good experience. Good place for catch up with big group of friends.

Fancy a little of Fitzroy in Bayswater? This is a very cool, trendy restaurant at Hawker Kitchen prices. Firstly, the service, friendly, warm and professional. The atmosphere is super Fitzroy vibe with a cage door entrance as you enter front of house which has exposed brick work and splashes of colour and a industrial feel. Back of house has private booths, hanging lanterns and a real feel of being in a Asian street market serving street food.
The food, fresh, real, on song with amazing flavours aromas and just yum and well priced.
Must try is the Salted Egg Chicken Ribs as well as the Beef Rendang (it's gluten free as well) There are plenty of other dishes that caught our eye but we will try those next time we visit.
This is certainly is a stand out place, worth the visit and worth trying. Best of all, well priced.

There is everything to love in this little spot of amazingness. Staff were friendly and service was efficient. The food was fresh, hot and delicious. We sampled chicken fried rice, seafood laksa, murtabak and Pandan crepe. The laksa was a personal favourite - fresh ingredients and depth of flavour (they don't skimp on the shrimp paste 👍) balanced very well with spiciness.

Thanks so much for a lovely lunch, folks!

Yummy food, love the salted egg chicken. A bit loud in the restaurant, hard to talk, it echoing. Sakurambo tea is amazing.

Portion sizes aren't big so keep that in mind when ordering. Otherwise fantastic restaurant with a lot of tasty mains such as sweet and sour ckicken, pepper beef and calamari.
Crispy chicken rice is by far my favourite.

Great atmosphere and food. It's a Malaysian/Singaporean fusion like restaurant but prices are reasonable, and foods tasted great. The crispy noodles, salted egg fried chicken & banana fritters were very yummy!!

We didn’t have the opportunity to visit Junior Tan Hawker Kitchen when they were still at Mountain High Shopping Centre, but it was a joy to visit and support them at their new venue. We opted for one of our favourites: Salted Egg Chicken Ribs, which was wonderfully crunchy, breaded throughout with salted egg flavour, and always so indulgently tasty. For warm greens, we had the Kunkong with spicy shrimp paste, which seemed wok-tossed and remained crunchy and fresh. We also had the Nasi Lemak, which had a two pieces of chicken curry, a large side of rice, half a boiled egg, pickled vegetables, peanuts, and fried anchovies. The serve was generous and delicious! For dessert, we had the Sago Pudding. The sago swam in a thick pudding of coconut, topped with a scoop of delightful mango ice cream, and some blueberries. It was light and just the right amount of sweetness to top a very satisfying lunch.

We love the menu and how easy it was to pick food, as it pointed out crowd favourites. Service was quick for the mains, but we had to wait a while for dessert to arrive as it got increasingly busy after 12pm on a Sunday. It was absolutely bustling by the time we left closer to 1pm. There was more space at the back, but this place has always been a local favourite, and continues to be the go-to for family get-togethers.

It was a great experience after their recent relocation, and we’ll definitely be back for more!

Been meaning to come here for awhile. Glad we finally did.

Highlight for me being the salted egg chicken ribs. Meaty, juicy and soaked in salted egg sauce. Even though having so much on it they were SO crispy.

Murtabak was filled with lamb mince, buttery and flakey. The curry was rich and flavourful.

Hokkien Mee was smokey and deep in flavour. Lots seafood and crispy pork lard mixed throughout.

Will be back!

One of the best Malaysian restaurants I've been to in a while! Amazing wok hei and flavours that brings me back to Penang. Also special mention to the girl at the counter who was very friendly, professional and from the same part of Malaysia (Selangor) as my family!

A definite must try, especially the Laksa, Char Kuey teow and Wat tan hor! Will definitely be back.

Update 2023

Junior Hawker Tan is back!! So glad to be able to enjoy delicious, comforting food once again!

Really authentic Malaysian food, the char kuey teow has that wok hei flavour that is so unique to Malaysian food. They also add lap cheong (chinese sausages) and fried pork lar - both cruicial when it comes to CKT!

Curry Laksa has great flavour, though i do think the broth itself could be thicker! I always get the seafood laksa but i’ve tried the chicken version and enjoyed it as much!

I’ve also tried the Chicken Satay, Har Mee (very popular dish here!), Nasi Lemak with Curry Chicken, Nasi Lemak with Beef Rendang, Wah Tan Hor with Seafood, Ramly Burger, Hokkien Mee and the Mongolian beef (shared dish) - which were all awesome as well!

JFC chicken was so juicy and the dipping sauce served with it is simply divine! They are boneless pieces of chicken but quite small. Sangria is topped with fruits and tasted very good but not sure if it’s very alcoholic.

Safe to say, Junior Tan is one of my go-to restaurants in the suburbs, and i have introduced it to many family members and friends!

Top quality food, venue and service. I’d say their Laksa was the best I had in Melbourne and their Roti and Sambal eggplant was amazing too. Definitely will return to try out other items on their menu!

Came here for lunch and ordered (1) Wat tan hor, (2) Har meen (prawn noodles), (3) Fried chicken rice.

Wat tan hor was close to what you can find in Malaysia with plenty of wok hei.

Har meen is good. The soup had some prawn flavour (but could be stronger :). Plenty of "kang kong" which enhances the taste of the dish.

Fried chicken rice is so so. The chicken was nice but the rice was a bit soggy. Not our taste.

Staff is friendly and provide good service. Kudo's to Vanetta?

All in all, we would recommend this place. The ambience is nice, staff are friendly, food is yummy and plenty of parking around.
