Interesting history of the most popular Christmas song, Silent Night. Very clean city. Great walking paths relating to the history of the city. Pretty views.

Where silent night song was made! The church has been rebuilt. Not much here but some small shops but still nice see if you’re in the area and learn the history. I was there for the 200 year anniversary a few years back.

This is a must see when nearby touring. The small unassuming chapel is beautiful and interesting.

There are plenty of signs to make sure one can find it.

"Silent Night" is my favorite Christmas carol so I'd been wanting to visit the place where it was written ever since I'd moved to Munich.

Being from Michigan, I'd visited more than once the replica of the Silent Night Chapel at Bronner's Christmas Store, near Frankenmuth, that the founder, Willy Bronner, had had built there after he himself visited the original. If course, those visits didn't compare to this. The original chapel had long since fallen into ruins and replaced, but it didn't diminish the feeling of awe that my wife and I felt as we stood inside and sang "Silent Night."

The Silent Night Museum was small but impressive, describing not only the history of the carol but also the history of Oberndorf, where it was written. There was even a karaoke booth, where my wife and I recorded our repeat performance of the carol.

All in all all, a worthwhile day trip that I would recommend to anyone who loves the song.

this was one of the most beautiful experiences to see where a typical Christmas song was created, we definitely recommend visiting it :)

This is a sacred and peaceful little chapel. It is located in a small town, Oberndorf, Austria that is probably best known as the location of the first singing of Silent Night, a hymn that is now known to billions of people in nearly every language. We were there on the 200th anniversary of Silent Night. It is an hour and a half from Munich and is will worth the time to visit.

Must see around Christmas.. Take some time in the Chapel, close your eyes and play Stille Nacht in your head. Then visit the museum and listen to it again. :) it's a song that managed to interrupt wars.

Visited early March, so no queues or visitors.
Probably gets busy in summer and exceptionally busy in the build up to Christmas.
Interesting chapel and very quaint inside.
This is where the most famous Christmas carol in the world originated.
