My favorite hotel we've stayed in all year -- and we've been to 27 hotels across Europe in the past 24 months. We stayed at the Hirschen for two nights in early July and it wasn't nearly long enough. We had a near-perfect stay in the Bregenzerwald...and even the rain somehow made it more charming and beautiful!

We loved our room -- Room #12 -- on the top corner of the hotel. Lovely view of the church, town square, fountain, and the mountains. Nice bedding, comfy bed, good plugs by the bed and throughout the room (near unheard of in a historic building), enough space for luggage, good storage furniture if you like to unpack your suitcases, cute table in the corner for working, windows that both open and vent, and plenty of space in the small bathroom for toiletries.

The decor, the art, the furniture, and the lighting all reinforce that the Bregenzerwald's focus is quality. It feels perfectly in line with the area's design and architectural past and future. The Hirschen GETS that details matter. The bathroom was perfectly appointed with Susanne Kaufmann spa products, the welcome packet was charmingly on an industrial clipboard, there's a postcard for you to take home of a piece of art in your room, they put a hiking backpack in the wardrobe for you to borrow, and there are fair trade chocolates on your bed when you arrive. Even the fan we requested for our room was on-brand! As someone who worked in luxury hotels, I assure you, these details were not overlooked.

From the bar to the restaurant to the garden, we had great meals there, even on days when the restaurant was closed to outside guests. I can only imagine what it would be like in full swing (I'm sure we'll find out because this definitely was not our last stay there). The breakfast spread was lovely and the cappuccinos were wonderful. We were traveling with our two year old son and they were very accommodating with a high chair and an overall welcome attitude to our toddler!

A few tips: don't forget to go across the street to the covered pavilion and pick up brochures and info packets from the tourism board! Great information on hiking trails, biking routes, events, festivals, and other activities. And bring your swimsuits in the summer -- the Hirschen doesn't have a pool but the public pool up the road looked adorable!

This is a beautiful, family-run hotel in a stunning location with a great restaurant! Staff were wonderful and the attention to detail was something else. I’ll definitely be back!

Great atmosphere in the 200Y old building, delicious food (had the chef's choice menu). Service was just perfect. Extensive wine list, beautiful bar area with a cozy fireplace.

This place is definitely one of Austrias finest and most unique spots! You'll always want to come back. Unbelievably beautiful family-run place run by a dedicated team in the historic center of the picturesque village of Schwarzenberg, also close to reasonably priced winter sport resorts if you care. Original wooden walls, ceilings and interior, excellent food, wine, art and good vibes. One of a kind!

I stayed for one night on a stopover and had a perfect time in Summer 2020! The garden was great and I really enjoyed the food and wine offerings. The room was recently refurbished and I slept very well.

Amazing staff, stunning building and interiors, adventurous and delicious restaurant, beautifully designed breakfast, incredible location - what more could you ask for? We hope to come back soon!

A most beautiful hotel run by great people, with delicious food and an outstanding wine selection. Hirschen is a great starting point for sports and activities in any season. Highly recommended!

Superb traditional Austrian hotel. Really friendly, great service and nice food.

I was there for working reasons but I am coming back with the missus and the wee lad next summer. You just have to go there and see it yourselves.
